"Y'all Fever fans be wilding": Aerial Powers reacts to Caitlin Clark fans' bold recruitment move
Caitlin Clark fans are not waiting until February 1 when the WNBA free agency officially hits. The fandom is using social media to recruit free-agent players and even got a response from one.
The Atlanta Dream guard Aerial Powers was getting wooed by Clark's fans to join the Indiana Fever in free agency. One of the dedicated fans used a video of Powers making an open 3-point shot in an overseas game. That fan hilariously said that she would be making such open 3-point shots every single game if she joined the Fever.
Clearly, the fan was alluding to Caitlin Clark attracting much of the opponents' defense's attention and her elite passing ability that would create open shots for Powers.
Loving the post, Powers quickly responded.
"Y'all fever fans be wilding but this Detroit girl loves it😂😂," wrote amused Powers in reply to the post by the fan.
Powers also used the opportunity to ask fans to watch her last video on YouTube and subscribe to her channel.
One of the reasons that the Fever fans would want to recruit Aerial Powers is because of her efficient 3-point shooting ability. Last season, with the Dream, Powers averaged 8.6 points off the bench while shooting 38.9% from the 3-point line. With a passer like Caitlin Clark by her side, she can legitimately shoot at a higher percentage.
Fever GM Amber Cox explains why the team did not include Caitlin Clark's teammate among protected players
Before the WNBA expansion draft, it was expected that Indiana Fever would include Temi Fagbenle among their six protected players. However, when she wasn't, the Golden State Valkyrie made the best of the opportunity and drafted Fagbenle.
Later, Fever GM said that the team's decision to not include Fagbenle among protected players was part of the plan to help Caitlin Clark and co. in the next season.
"You know, it's really part of an overall plan, which hopefully, everybody will see unfold during the offseason," Cox said on the 'In Case You Missed It' podcast with Khristina Williams.
"The Expansion Draft is difficult. It's hard to lose a player. You know, six is not very many when you think about protecting anybody on the roster and this group obviously built great camaraderie in the second half of the season. So, that was not an easy decision," she added.
"But again, part of a bigger plan that I hope everyone will get to see unfold as we get into the rest of the offseason."
Temi Fagbenle returned to the WNBA after four years of absence when she played basketball in Europe. Last season, she was one of the forerunners in the Sixth Player of the Year Award. However, she was eliminated from the race due to her thumb injury that kept her out for two months.
As long as Fagbenle was on the court with Caitlin Clark, their chemistry was undeniable. One of the reasons for it was hard for the franchise to part ways with the veteran player.
In 22 games last season, Fagbenle averaged 6.4 points on 50.9% shooting from the field. She also averaged 4.7 rebounds, 0.5 steals and 0.7 blocks per game.
