JaVale McGee: A Brief Biography

JaVale Lindy McGee is an American professional basketball player who plays as a center for the Los Angeles Lakers of the NBA. He was selected 18th overall by the Washington Wizards in the 2008 NBA draft. He is a two-time NBA champion, having won consecutive titles with the Golden State Warriors in 2017 and 2018.


McGee was the starting center for University of Nevada, In his sophomore campaign, He averaged 14.3 points and 7.3 rebounds


He was selected 18th overall by the Wizards in the 2008 NBA draft. On January 6, 2011, McGee was chosen to participate in the 2011 NBA Slam Dunk Contest, McGee finished in second place just behind Blake Griffin.


On March 15, 2011, in a 98–79 loss against the Chicago Bulls, McGee grabbed his first career triple-double, recording 11 points, 12 rebounds, and 12 blocks.


He had the best year of his career statistically in 2011-12, averaging 11.9 points and 8.8 rebounds per game.


On March 15, 2012, McGee was traded to the Denver Nuggets, his numbers went down every year as his minutes decreased and he suffered from injuries.


He then played for the 76ers and the Mavericks before being traded to the Golden State Warriors, where he won back-to-back championships defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals, McGee started the final 3 games of the 2018 NBA Finals.


On July 10, 2018, McGee signed with the Los Angeles Lakers.
