Larry Nance Jr. : A Brief Biography
Larry Donnell Nance Jr. is an American professional basketball player and a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers of the NBA. Larry Nance Jr. is the son of player Larry Nance who played his professional basketball for the Cavaliers and the Phoenix Suns. Nance attended Revere High School near Akron, Ohio. As a senior, he averaged 18.2 points, 9.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game for the Minutemen.
Larry played his college basketball for Wyoming. In his four years there, he averaged 11.3 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.1 blocks in 123 games and was considered as one of the best big men in Mountain West Conference. He led the Wyoming Cowboys to their first NCAA tournament since 2002 in 2014-15. He is the 2015 MWC Defensive Player of the Year, 2-time First Team All-MWC (2014,2015) and a 2-time MWC All-Defensive Team (2014,2015).
Nance was selected as the 27th overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers. In the 3 seasons Lance played in the purple and gold, he averaged 6.9 points, 5.7 rebound, 1.2 assists to go along with 1.2 steals shooting 54.7 percent from the field. Mid-way through the 2017-2018 NBA season, Nance, along with Jordan Clarkson, was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for Isaiah Thomas, Channing Frye, and a 2018 first-round draft pick.
After playing two games with no. 24 jersey, the NBA allowed him to him to wear his father's retired No. 22 jersey. In his first start, he set career highs with 22 points and 15 rebounds as the Cavaliers defeated the Detroit Pistons 112–90. He had a career-best stretch posting seven consecutive double-digit scoring games. Nance helped the Cleveland Cavaliers reach the NBA Finals for the fourth consecutive time where they got swept by the Golden State Warriors. Nance also participated in the 2018 NBA Slam Dunk contest where he came in second.
