Markieff Morris: A Brief Biography
Markieff Morris is an American professional basketball who plays as a power forward for the Washington Wizards of the NBA. He has four brothers, Donte, Blake, David and twin Marcus, who currently plays for the Boston Celtics. His Nickname is “Keef” giving to him by his late grandmother.
Markieff was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He attended high school at Prep Charter (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) and APEX Academy (Pennsauken, New Jersey). During 11th-grade his childhood home was destroyed by a fire, that made his family move in with his grandparents.Markieff joined the University of Kansas, where he majored in American studies.
Morris was drafted by the Phoenix Suns with the 13th pick in the 2011 NBA draft. He had his first professional start in the NBA against the New York Knicks. Markieff was selected to play in the 2012 Rising Stars challenge. On February 21, 2013, his brother Marcus was traded to the Phoenix Suns, reuniting them after two years. The Morris twins went on to become the first brothers ever to start alongside each other on the same team in the NBA. Morris was named the Western Conference Player of the Week for the November 4 to November 11, 2013, for shooting over 75% from the field in three consecutive games with at least 12 attempts in each game. He finished fourth in voting for NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award and tenth in voting for NBA Most Improved Player Award in 2014.
On September 29, 2014, Markieff signed a multi-year contract extension with the Phoenix Suns. On January 13, 2015, he scored a career-high 35 points in a victory against the Cleveland Cavaliers.He became the only Suns player to play in all 82 games during 2014-15 season. During his last game with the Suns on February 10, 2016, against the Golden State Warriors, Morris and teammate Archie Goodwin got into a physical altercation on the bench and were seen arguing during a timeout.
On February 18, 2016, Markieff was traded to the Washington Wizards for Kris Humphries, DeJuan Blair and a 2016 Top–9 protected first round draft pick. He made his debut for the Washington Wizards the very next day playing against the Detroit Pistons. Morris scored 21 points in his NBA playoff debut as the Wizards defeated the Atlanta Hawks in Game 1 of first-round. Morris missed around 5 weeks of the season during late September 2017 as he had undergone surgery to repair a Sports Hernia.
