Reggie Jackson: A Brief Biography
Reginald Shon Jackson is an Italy-born professional basketball player. He plays in the National Basketball Association league for the Denver Nuggets. The 32-year (April 16, 1990) old point guard is also popularly known by various nicknames such as ‘Mister June’, ‘Big Government’ etc. Jackson entered the NBA in 2011 with the selection by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2011 NBA draft. Reggie also played high school and college-level basketball before moving to the NBA.

Reggie Jackson was born to an American couple in Pordenone, Italy. His father’s name is Saul Jackson while his mother’s name is Sharon Jackson. Reggie is a Christian by religion and he belongs to an African-American ethnicity. He has two siblings – Travis and Trez Jackson. His father served in the military at a NATO airbase at the time of Reggie’s birth.
At the age of 5, Reggie Jackson’s family moved to England before shifting permanently to the United States. Jackson played football in the UK and ice and roller hockey in North Dakota. Before settling in Colorado Springs, Reggie Jackson lived in several cities throughout the USA. He completed his high school education in Colorado Springs in 2008 and then played college basketball in Boston.

Reggie Jackson joined the Oklahoma City Thunder as his first team in the professional NBA league. He was drafted by the club in the 2011 NBA draft. Reggie got a short period of time to display his skills on the court in his first season. On average, he played only 11.1 minutes in 45 games. Meanwhile, Jackson scored over three points each game.
From March to December 2012, Reggie was assigned to the Tulsa 66ers of the NBA Development League several times. He increased his performance and playing time as a sophomore in the 2012-13 season. Against the Houston Rockets, Russell Westbrook injured Reggie’s meniscus in Game 2 of the Thunder’s first-round playoff series. However, he helped his team to win Game 3 with 14 points, 2 rebounds and 1 assist in his first career start. He also averaged 15.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game as a starter during the playoffs.
Reggie Jackson was selected to participate in the 2014 Taco Bell Skills Challenge. In Game 4 of the 2014 NBA playoffs, he posted a career-high 32 points and 9 rebounds against the Grizzlies. Jackson secured a season-high 29 points in a defeat against the Milwaukee Bucks on November 11, 2014.
As a part of a three-team deal, Reggie Jackson joined the Detroit Pistons in February 2015. In his debut game for the Pistons, Reggie scored 17 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists against the Washington Wizards on February 22. He secured his career’s 2nd triple-double on March 27 in a victory against the Orlando Magic. Reggie also became the first player to record multiple triple-doubles in a single season after the 1986-87 season. In July 2015, Jackson refreshed his contract with the Pistons to extend it to five years. In a 120-103 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers, Reggie recorded a career-high 40 points on November 8, 2015.
On December 2 against the Phoenix Suns, Jackson had a career-best game with 34 points and 16 assists. Meanwhile, he was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week (November 30 – December 6). Jackson led his team to four consecutive wins with 27 points and 8.8 assists during the week. In October 2016, Reggie Jackson underwent treatment for his left knee and ruled out for six to eight weeks. He returned to action on December 4 after missing 21 games of the 2016-17 season.
Jackson scored 24 of 26 points in the second half of a game against the Chicago Bulls on March 6, 2017. Once a contract buyout agreement was completed, the Detroit Pistons waived Jackson on February 18, 2020.
Two days later, Reggie Jackson was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers on February 20 under a one-year deal. However, he re-signed with the Clippers on December 1 of the same year. Reggie led his team to their first Western Conference Finals appearance. He scored 27 points in Game 6 but the Clippers lost six games to the Phoenix Suns. Later, on August 11, 2021, Reggie Jackson re-signed with the Clippers under a 2-year agreement.
Jackson registered 31 points and 10 rebounds in a loss against the Dallas Mavericks on November 23, 2021. Similarly, he scored 25 points and 8 rebounds in a win over the Los Angeles Lakers on February 26. In a 118-112 win over the Portland Trail Blazers, Reggie logged 24 points, 7 rebounds and 12 assists on November 29.

Reggie Jackson attended General William J. Palmer High School based in Colorado Springs. He finished his graduation in 2008. Also, Jackson won the 2007-08 Gatorade Colorado Boys’ Basketball Player of the Year. Along with that, Jackson was also listed as the No. 29 shooting guard as well as the No. 115 player in the USA in 2008.
After his high school tenure, Jackson joined Boston College in 2008. He joined the team to play college basketball that already included star players i.e. Rakim Sanders and Tyrese Rice. His team made the NCAA tournament in Reggie’s freshman season with himself being utilized as an explosive weapon off the bench. After the departure of Rice, Jackson held the role of a starter but it didn’t help his team to make the NCAA tournament again.
