Tulsa Golden Hurricane Football Team History
The Tulsa Golden Hurricane football team, originally known as Henry Kendall College, began in 1895 with a win against the Bacone Indians. After moving to Tulsa in 1907, the team grew steadily. Early successes included an undefeated 1916 season, outscoring opponents 566-40. Coach Francis Schmidt led the team to many high-scoring victories, including a 152-0 win over Oklahoma Baptist. Tulsa's football program thrived, joining the Missouri Valley Conference in 1935. The team adopted the name "Golden Hurricane" in 1922, and Skelly Field became their home stadium in 1930. Under various coaches, Tulsa achieved numerous championships and memorable victories, establishing a rich football legacy despite being the smallest FBS school by undergraduate enrollment.

Kevin Reece Wilson, born October 23, 1961, is the head coach of the University of Tulsa football team. He was the offensive coordinator at Ohio State University from 2017 to 2022 and head coach at Indiana University from 2011 to 2016. Wilson also served as offensive coordinator at the University of Oklahoma from 2002 to 2010. A former player, he played center and guard for the University of North Carolina Tar Heels, earning a scholarship after two seasons as a walk-on.
