AEW World Championship Match - MJF vs. Samoa Joe

MJF defeated Samoa Joe in September to retain his AEW World Championship. During that match, MJF’s tag team partner Adam Cole came out to help him but ended up injuring his leg. This made him unable to defend his ROH Tag Team Championship at Full Gear. Joe offered MJF to be his tag team partner to defend the title in exchange for a shot at the AEW World Championship.

While MJF was reluctant at first, he eventually agreed. The two stars managed to retain the ROH World Tag Championship at AEW Full Gear. However, MJF got injured during the match. Three days later, at Dynamite, MJF gave Joe his shot at the title but Joe declined. He wanted to face a healthy MJF and instead proposed a match at World’s End, which MJF accepted.

AEW Continental Classic Final

The winner of the Blue League and Gold League will be known on the December 27 episode of Dynamite when they defeat the second-best wrestler in their league. Then, the two wrestlers will compete at World’s End for the inaugural AEW Continental Championship. Also on the line will be the ROH World Television Championship and NJPW Strong Openweight Champion. Thus, the winner of the match at World’s End will be known as the first-ever AEW Triple Crown Champion.

AEW World’s End History

AEW World’s End
AEW World’s End

On October 25, 2023, it was reported that All Elite Wrestling had filed a trademark for World’s End as a PPV name. The same night, on Dynamite, AEW announced that the first edition of World’s End will take place on December 30, 2023. Since the inception of AEW, Full Gear has been its final pay-per-view event of the year. The event always takes place in the third week of November. Thus, so far, AEW did not have a PPV event in December. AEW World’s End was the first AEW PPV to take place in December and the first to take place in a year after Full Gear.
