About CPL
CPL 2022 will start on August 31 (September 1 as per IST) with a battle between Jamaica Tallawahs and St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots. Six CPL teams, namely, Jamaica Tallawahs, St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots, Barbados Royals, Trinbago Knight Riders, St. Lucia Kings and Guyana Amazon Warriors will battle in the 2022 edition of the league.
St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots are the defending champions of CPL 2022. They won the championship last year by beating St. Lucia Kings by three wickets in a thrilling final. This year, the league matches will happen from August 31 to September 25. The playoffs will start on September 27, with the final match scheduled to take place on October 1 in Guyana.
History
CPL began in the year 2013. Seeing the success of IPL, almost all cricket boards outside India launched their own T20 leagues. CPL is the official T20 league of Cricket West Indies. It has taken place every year since 2013.
This year, a new T10 tournament named 6ixty will precede CPL 2022. Trinbago Knight Riders (previously known as Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel) have been the most successful team in the tournament. They have won four trophies.
CPL 2022 Format
The format of CPL 2022 is the same as the IPL. All teams play against each other twice in the league stage. The top four teams in the CPL points table will qualify for the playoffs.
In the playoffs, the top two teams will battle in the Qualifier 1, while the third and fourth placed teams will lock horns in the Eliminator. The winner of Qualifier 1 will progress to the final, while the loser will meet the winner of the Eliminator in Qualifier 2. Winner of Qualifier 2 will meet the winner of Qualifier 1 in the final, and the team that emerges on top in that game will be the CPL 2022 winners.
CPL 2022 Venues
CPL 2022 will take place at four venues. St. Kitts’ Warner Park will host the first seven matches of the tournament. St. Lucia’s Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium will host the next eight matches. The action will then move to Trinidad’s Queen’s Park Oval, which will host Matches 16 to 23. The last seven league games and the playoffs will happen at Guyana’s Providence Stadium.
