The RBC Heritage is a South Carolina-based PGA Tour event that was first held 55 years ago, in 1969. For the majority of its history, it was known as the Heritage Classic or simply The Heritage.

The Harbour Town Golf Links at the Sea Pines Resort on Hilton Head Island have served as the location for the whole event's history. The renowned golf course architect Pete Dye, with help from Jack Nicklaus, created the Harbour Town course, which is regularly featured on numerous lists of the "Best Courses."

The 2024 RBC Heritage took place from April 15 to April 21; the event was won by Scottie Scheffler, his 10th PGA Tour event and fourth in the 2024 season, after winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the Players Championship and the Masters Tournament. He defeated Sahith Theegala for a total score of 265, under 19 by three strokes.

Matt Fitzpatrick defeated Jordan Spieth in a playoff match to win the 2023 RBC Heritage title. At Harbour Town Golf Links, he raised the trophy and collected a $3.6 million winner's share of the $20 million total purse.

Jordan Spieth, the 2022 champion, and Fitzpatrick were tied at the finish with a score under 17. He prevailed in a head-to-head match between the two after he made a par-3 on the 18th hole. Jordan Spieth finished in second place, with Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay following.

RBC Heritage History

The inaugural RBC Heritage was held more than five decades ago, in 1969, at which Arnold Palmer won by a margin of three strokes and a score of 283, under 1, against Richard Crawford and Bert Yancey, who both tied for second place.

Played in late November for the first time, it was shifted to mid-September 1973, March 1974, and April 1983. In 1975, Jack Nicklaus, who co-designed the course, also won it. Davis Love III is the event leader with five wins; Stewart Cink and Hale Irwin have three, while seven other people have two victories each.

In 1972, the tournament was held at two locations: the Ocean Course at Sea Pines and the Harbour Town Golf Links, and the last two rounds were held in Harbour Town.

It was sponsored by MCI or by Verizon, the company's eventual buyer, between 1987 and 2010. The Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) has been The Heritage's title sponsor since 2012. Currently, the Heritage Classic Foundation is in charge of organizing it.
