About World Wide Technology Championship
World Wide Technology Championship 2023
The 2023 World Wide Technology Championship has been jointly announced by the PGA Tour and World Wide Technology (WWT). It will take place from October 30 to November 5, 2023, at the El Cardonal Course in Diamante Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
Tiger Woods designed El Cardonal, which has breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean. The tournament will determine the final 125 participants for the upcoming season, with 132 players competing for 500 FedExCup points.
Jim Kavanaugh, CEO of WWT, emphasizes the event's goal of fostering innovation and exhibiting golf skills. The host, Diamante, is a private resort that includes top-notch golf courses. The Golf Channel will broadcast the championship, one of two FedExCup tournaments taking place in Mexico.
The PGA Tour chose to sever ties with Mayakoba due to the ongoing legal dispute between LIV Golf and the tour. Commissioner of the PGA Tour Jay Monahan stated in January 2023 that the tour was collaborating with World Wide Technology, but he did not anticipate them returning to Mayakoba.
World Wide Technology Championship 2023 History
The tournament was held the same week as the WGC Match Play event in Arizona, having originally been an alternate event in late winter. Mayakoba gained half the points of a regular event while competing in the FedEx Cup. It was the wealthiest golf event in Mexico in 2007, with a prize fund of US$3.5 million.
Four months prior, Fred Funk, a Champions Tour winner, defeated José Cóceres of Argentina in a playoff to win the first tournament. At 50 years, 257 days, Funk became the oldest player to win a PGA Tour tournament in almost thirty-two years.
As a main event in the early part of the 2014 season, which started in October for the first time, the event was relocated from October to mid-November in 2013.
In addition to a major purse increase of over 60% to $6 million, the tournament now offered full FedEx Cup points and an invitation to the Masters. The Mayakoba tournament was not included in the shortened 2013 season due to the tour's revised schedule.
Four additional sponsor exemptions are granted to players of Spanish or Mexican descent from Latin America, South America, Spain, or Mexico for the Golf Classic.
World Wide Technology was revealed as the event's new title sponsor in 2021; the agreement ran through 2027. El Camaleón Golf Course was announced as a new member of the 2023 LIV Golf League lineup in November 2022.

World Wide Technology Championship 2023 Course
The opening of El Cardonal, Tiger Woods' first golf course, in 2014 enhanced the already stellar reputations of both Diamante and Los Cabos as premier golf locations. Tiger designed a course that revives the need for strategy by giving players multiple shot possibilities to choose from on each hole, drawing inspiration from the traditional Southern California courses he grew up playing.
The course is lengthy enough to test experienced players while remaining flexible enough to offer possibilities for individuals with greater handicaps.
The details of the holes are as follows:
Hole | Par | Yards |
1 | 5 | 541 |
2 | 3 | 208 |
