THE PLAYERS Championship - Round Two
Viktor Hovland

The Norwegian pro golfer Viktor Hovland was born on September 18, 1997. He began playing golf at the age of 11, but won his first championship at the age of 16 in the 2014 Norwegian Amateur Golf Championship.

While studying at Oklahoma State University on a golf scholarship, he won the U.S. Amateur in 2018, earning invitations to the U.S. Open, Masters and Open Championships next season. He made the cut in all three and finished as a low amateur in the 2019 Masters and the 2019 U.S. Open; at the latter, he even broke the record of Jack Niklaus by the lowest amateur score of 280, by two less strokes.

He also won the 2019 Ben Hogan Award, and shortly after turned pro, winning ten professional wins, including six on the PGA Tour, two on the European Tour, and two other wins.

The 2023 season was rather spectacular for Hovland, as he had three wins, including the BMW Championship, over Matt Fitzpatrick and Scottie Scheffler by two strokes. Followed by a win at the Tour Championship, defeating Xander Schauffele by five strokes with a score of 261, under 27, and finally winning his first FedEx Cup.

Viktor Hovland Birthplace

Viktor Hovland was born in Oslo, Norway.

Viktor is the first Norwegian player ever to have had a victory at the US Amateur. This 2018 victory brought him notoriety, but he didn't stop there; he made history again by playing in the Masters' tournament in 2019 and happens to be the first-ever Norwegian to do so!

Harald, Viktor's father, was staying and working in St. Louis, US; he discovered the sport then and decided to introduce his son. Upon returning to Norway, Harald brought back golf clubs and introduced Viktor to the game at the age of 11, and as they say, the rest is history. Unfortunately, not much is known about his mother, Galina.
