
The Norwegian pro-golfer Viktor Hovland was born on September 18, 1997. Hovland, while studying at Oklahoma State University on a golf scholarship, won the U.S. Amateur in 2018, earning invitations to the following season's U.S. Open, Masters, and Open Championships. He made the cut in all three and finished as a low amateur in the 2019 Masters and the 2019 U.S. Open. At the latter, he broke the record of Jack Niklaus (282) for the lowest amateur score by two fewer strokes.
Hovland won the 2019 Ben Hogan Award and, shortly after, turned pro, winning 11 professional events, including seven on the PGA Tour, two on the European Tour, and two other wins, as of April 2025. In the 2023 season, he secured three wins: the BMW Championship, over Matt Fitzpatrick and Scottie Scheffler by two strokes, followed by a win at the Tour Championship, defeating Xander Schauffele by five strokes with a score of 261, under 27, and finally winning his first FedEx Cup.

Viktor Hovland was introduced to golf at age 11 when his father, Harald, brought home a set of junior clubs from St. Louis, where he was working as an engineer. Hovland quickly took to the game and won the 2014 Norwegian Amateur Golf Championship at age 16. He later moved to the U.S. to attend Oklahoma State University. In 2018, he became the first Norwegian to win the U.S. Amateur, and the following year, he became the first Norwegian to play in the Masters.
