Commentary

Right then. That brings us to the end of our coverage for this 2nd ODI between India W and Bangladesh W. Lots of cricketing action going around. The 4th Ashes Test is currently underway while arch-rivals India and Pakistan are fighting it out in the Emerging Asia Cup. Switch tabs to follow those high octane games but for now, this is myself (Arya Sekhar Chakraborty) signing off also on behalf of my fellow commentator and good mate Karthik Raj.

Harmanpreet Kaur (India captain): We wanted to bat first and set up a decent score on the board. We had a discussion in the dressing room that one batter should bat till the end. When Jemmy came in, we played each delivery according to the merit of the ball and kept rotating the strike. We have been batting on flat track and after a long time we got a challenging track which had spin and couldn’t quite adjust quickly. We spoke about what plans to employ and how to adjust on these surfaces. The series decider in two days will be a good one.

Jemimah Rodrigues (Player of the Match): I would be lying if I say I wasn’t under pressure, especially after the way Bangladesh played in the first game. It was just about discussing as a group and coming back strongly. Smriti gave us a good start and then myself and Harman was going well. Harleen towards the end gave us the push. With the ball I didn't try to do anything extra. I saw the ball was turning and just pitched it in the right areas. Thankful to my captain for the faith she had in me.

Nahida Akter (Bangladesh vice-captain): Fielding wasn't great and we couldn't restrict India to a low total. (Fargana Hoque) Pinky and Ritu (Moni) batted well in the middle but we couldn't carry on. We will look to come back strong and do better in the final game

India made a dramatic comeback on the back of a splendid all-round showing from Jemimah Rodrigues. The spinners were too good for Bangladesh as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Murshida Khatun and Sharmin Akter opened the innings for Bangladesh. Murshida came out with a positive frame of mind and smashed three boundaries of Meghna Singh in her first 3 overs.

Sharmin Akter looked out of sorts and was eventually dismissed by Deepti Sharma. Murshida also departed soon as Meghna Singh got her reward for keeping it in the right areas. Fargana Hoque alinky and Lata Mondal tried to resurrect the ship but Sneh Rana had other ideas. She bagged the wicket of Mondal but then followed the partnership which gave Bangladesh hope.

Ritu Moni steadied the ship with Hoque. With both batters looking in good touch, Bangladesh were back in the business. However, what transpired post the 28th over was quite baffling to say the least. Bangladesh totally lost their way and went on to lose by 108 runs.

The spin trio of Deepti Sharma, Devika Vaidya and Jemimah Rodrigues did a brilliant job. Jemimah who had only taken one ODI wicket before this game bagged 4 and skittled Bangladesh out for just 120. Devika Vaidya also chipped in with 3 wickets as India kept the series alive.

What a comprehensive win for India as they show why they are regarded as one of the best white ball outfits going around. Bangladesh lost their last 7 wickets for just 14 runs and were eventually skittled out for just 120 in the 36th over. Jemimah Rodrigues who was the game changer with the bat proved to be the game changer with the ball as well bagging 4 crucial wickets to peg them back.

35.1 Jemimah Rodrigues to Marufa Akter, WICKET! INDIA WIN! Full and wide of off, Marufa thrashes it to short extra-cover where Mandhana reacts quickly and takes a sharp catch to her right. With that, India wrap up a comfortable 108-run win!
