Commentary

So, Saint Lucia Kings move to the top of the table with the win here over Barbados Royals while the Royals are on the third spot courtesy the result. We will be back in a few hours time with TKR taking on SNKP in the next match but for now this is Sourabh and Maanas taking your leave, good bye!

Faf du Plesis (Saint Lucia Kings captain): I think it was the best today (the pitch). We thought it would be the the worst today with 4 games being played. Really proud of the guys, it was an incredible effort specially with the start. We though of getting 130-140, it was a good effort to get to 160, even though we could have gone for a bit more looking back at it now. The message was to limit the damage in the powerplay, quite a few boundaries hit to one side with the wind. We kept getting wickets and it was awesome from our bowlers. Ackeem is a really good young player, specially against spin, there are talks of him being in the team (West Indies) to go to the subcontinent (laughs). I think he will be a proper player specially in the longer format.

Rovman Powell (Barbados Royals): I think it was a case of too many runs, we gave away 60 runs in the last 4 overs. It was unacceptable on that kind of a wicket. It is upto us to identify the areas and improve on them, We always knew that the powerplay was going to be really important (with the bat) but it was not easy against the spinners in the middle. Rakheem was unable to open due to his knee issue, good that Alleyne made good use of the opportunity at the top. It will be an important match (against Guyana), we will be looking to improve and put up a good show.

Johnson Charles (Player of the Match): We played yesterday and we saw how it played, very slow. The plan was to stay in the middle and capitalise on the matchups. (Switch hit) It was something I had to put in my game because it was no secret that left handers were troubling me. It's not perfect yet but I am going to continue adding stuff to my game. To be honest, I'm at the point of my career where it's all about experience taking over. On these kind of surfaces, your role changes.

It was a stiff target set by the Kings and in the end they emerge as winners with a comfortable 13-run margin over the Royals, their second win over them in as many days taking them to the top of the points table.

Chasing 163, Barbados Royals were off the blocks in a rapid way with openers de Kock and Alleyne blazing away in the powerplay. They got to 50 inside the 4th over and threatened to take the game away from the Kings.

However, Alzarri struck dismissing de Kock once again and from there on the things turned altogether. Cornwall walked in at 3 and got stuck at the crease, the Royals lost all the momentum and even Alleyne lost his rhythm.

Wickets kept falling in regular intervals post then as the Kings' spinners got into their work in the middle overs. Athanaze and Miller got together for the fifth wicket and tried to get the Royals back into the contest. But as soon as Miller was dismissed by Noor in the 16th over it proved really tough for the Royals.

They left a bit too much for the slog overs and the likes of David Wiese and Joseph used all their experience in the death for the Kings to get them past the line comfortably putting the cutters and the slower deliveries to good use and denying any pace to the batters which made boundary-hitting really tough for someone like Holder who was left with too much to do.
