We might have just seen the past (and present) and the future of CSK speak one after another. The raucous cheers and chants of 'Dhoni! Dhoni!' were unmissable during that conversation and as always, he has left us all guessing. No concrete word on whether he will return or not and it is something time will bear an answer to. But what a knock we witnessed from Dewald Brevis as well. A coup of some kind that CSK have pulled off as a replacement and alongside Ayush Mhatre, he sure promises a lot for a brighter 2026 after CSK end this season rock bottom for the very first time in their history. A season to forget, but they often bounce back from adversity and will hope that next year brings about a total turnaround.

But the Titans are still contending for the title although it has taken a real hit now with two consecutive defeats. They have some serious questions to answer and how they cope in Jos Buttler's absence as he departs on national duty also remains to be seen. They will fly to Mullanpur for the playoffs although they won't know until Tuesday night as to whether they will play Qualifier 1 or the Eliminator. Dewald Brevis is the Player of the Match for his blistering unbeaten 57 off 23 balls. Here's what he has to say: I'm definitely happy. It's almost like I'm really enjoying the game and having fun out there. That's the big thing for me and it's to be myself. Basically the kid that played cricket - stay out there and enjoy every moment. I really just enjoyed it. When I went out there I just wanted to play for the team, whatever they needed. I'm very grateful. For me a big thing is the last few months. The big thing for me is Test cricket - that's the pinnacle. (Was 'Baby AB' a burden to carry?) It's always been a privilege because AB is someone I look up to and still do. He has helped me with my game. It was never a burden or anything but it was important for people to know me as DB, Dewald. I am my own player but it's an honor to be compared to him.

MS Dhoni (Chennai Super Kings captain): It's good, I wouldn't say today was houseful but a decent number of crowd. It's a very big stadium. Didn't have a good season but good to finish on a winning note. It was one of our perfect performances in the bowling and batting department. We haven't caught very well so this was one game where the catching was good. (Is he coming back next year?) It depends - I would say the same thing, I have four-five months to decide. There's no hurry to decide. It's 15 per cent more effort to keep the body away from pain. This is top level cricket, you have to be at your best. It's not always performance that you can count. If cricketers start retiring because of performance then a few of them would retire at 22. What's important is to see if you can contribute and if the team needs you. I have enough time, going back to Ranchi. Haven't been home in a long time, want to enjoy some bike rides. I'm not saying I'm done, I'm not saying I'm coming back at the same time. I have the luxury of timing and when you have the luxury, why not. (On the season) We played six games out of which the first four were in Chennai. We won tosses, we decided to bat second and we thought there was a lot of dew. But somehow the wicket was better to bat in the first innings. The confidence got sucked from the batters and it was difficult to come back. Now looking at how everyone is contributing we look like a side that can put runs on the board and maneuvering with the bowling is slightly easy. We do have some holes to plug but one of the good things is once Rutu comes back next year, we give him a team where he maybe has to fill just one spot in the playing XI. (How does he feel when someone like Vaibhav Suryavanshi touches his feet?) Definitely you feel old (laughs). Not to forget I have Andre (Siddharth) in my team. I sit on the last seat on the bus and he sits next to me. I asked him 'how old are you' and he's exactly 25 years younger than me. That's when I realized that I'm seriously old (laughs).
