About IPL 2024
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released the schedule for IPL 2024. The 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will commence from March 22, 2024. The tournament-opener will see defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) lock horns with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. And, fans are ready to follow IPL 2024 Live Scores, ball by ball commentary for the upcoming season.
The BCCI has so far released the IPL 2024 schedule for only the first 21 Matches.
IPL History and Format
The Indian Premier League was initiated in the year 2008 by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Eight teams participated in the inaugural season and soon it extended to a 10-team tournament in 2011. The IPL 2024 Live Score will be available ahead of everyone with latest stats, scoreboards at Sportskeeda.
However, there were only nine teams playing in the fifth season of IPL 2012 as Kochi Tuskers Kerala was terminated after failing to pay its annual bank guarantee. The BCCI terminated Pune Warriors India in October 2013 on similar grounds to that of the now-defunct Kochi franchise.
The tournament, hence, was back to its eight-team event in IPL 2014. Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals were suspended for two seasons after their officials were found guilty in betting and spot-fixing activities.
Gujarat Lions and Rising Pune Supergiant replaced CSK and RR for the 2016 and 2017 seasons. The two teams returned to IPL after completing their suspension in 2018 and eventually the contracts of GL and RPS ended.
The BCCI added two more teams, Gujarat Titans and Lucknow SuperGiants, to reinstate the 10-team tournament structure after 11 years in 2022.
As of IPL 2024, each team will play 14 matches in the group stage, including seven at their home and seven away. The 10 teams are categorically divided into two groups. Each team will play the teams of opposite groups twice and once against the teams of their own group.

What's New in IPL 2024
New Rules - Two bouncers allowed
Partial Schedule announced
Impact Player Rule stays
Captaincy changes
Coaching tweaks
The IPL is back, and with it comes a fresh wave of cricketing excitement. While the core elements of the tournament remain – world-class players, high-octane matches, and passionate fans – there are a few interesting tweaks and developments that promise to make IPL 2024 a unique season.
On the field, the biggest change comes in the form of revised bowling regulations. This year, bowlers are allowed to unleash two bouncers per over, as opposed to the previous limit of one. This seemingly small adjustment could significantly impact the game's flow.
Another noteworthy aspect is the staggered schedule announcement. Due to the upcoming Indian elections, the BCCI has only revealed the first leg of the tournament, featuring 21 matches played across 10 cities between March 22nd and April 7th. This two-part schedule adds a layer of anticipation as fans eagerly await the remaining fixtures.
The "Impact Player" rule, introduced last season, is here to stay. According to the rule, a team will name four substitute players along with their playing XI before the toss.
The team can replace only one of the four named substitute players on the list with any player in the main XI. Both teams have the option of replacing one player as an ‘Impact Player’ before the completion of the 14th over in either innings of the match.
Either the captain, head coach or the manager of the team should inform the on-field umpires or the fourth umpire regarding the introduction of the Impact Player before the 14th over in any innings. It should be noted that there is no mandate to follow the Impact Player rule for a team and it is very optional to use according to their own benefit.
A batting side can reveal the Impact Player at the fall of a wicket or during the innings break, while a bowler can bowl his full quota of four overs once replaced as an Impact player with respect to full 20-over innings
Furthermore, several exciting captaincy changes have taken place. Pat Cummins, the Australian pace ace, now leads the Sunrisers Hyderabad, while Hardik Pandya takes charge of the Mumbai Indians. These fresh perspectives at the helm could lead to innovative strategies and a different brand of cricket for these IPL 2024 teams.
