After missing out on the playoffs spot during the 2023 IPL season, Rajasthan Royals (RR) will hope for a better showing at the IPL 2024 edition. The management kept faith in most of their players and will back Sanju Samson and Co. to turn it around next year.
RR started the 2024 player auction by snapping up Rovman Powell for INR 7.40 crore. They also went in hard for a Vidharbha batter in Shubham Dubey.
Under the leadership of Sanju Samson, Rajasthan Royals will hope to end their IPL silverware drought. The inaugural champions came close in the IPL 2022, where they lost the summit clash against Gujarat Titans (GT).
With a fiery top-order which includes Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson, RR needed some strengthening in their middle-order. Hence, they went in hard for Rovman Powell, who is a genuine hard-hitting batter.
Prior to the mini-auction, RR also traded in Avesh Khan from Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). In return, LSG got Devdutt Padikkal, who proved to be a misfit at RR.
RR Team 2024: Rajasthan Royals IPL 2024 Auction Buys
Rajasthan mostly remained quiet in the first half of the IPL 2024 mini-auction. While they purchased Rovman Powell early on, they waited for some time to get their second player in the form of Shubham Dubey. Here are all the 5 players bought by RR at IPL 2024 auction.

IPL 2024 Auction Rules
The 10 franchises would have to follow the following rules formulated for the IPL 2024 auction:
Each team should spend at least 75% of their entire budget.
Teams won't be able to use the Right to Match (RTM) card option.
Each team can have a minimum of 18 players which can go up to no more than 25 in the squad.
Every team needs to have at least 17 Indian players in their squad which can go up to a maximum of 25 in number.
Each team can have a minimum of zero overseas players in their squad, which can go up to a maximum of 8 in total.
IPL 2024 Auction RR’s Purse Value
The Rajasthan Royals (RR) freed up their purse by releasing 9 players from their 2023 squad.
As a result, they had INR 14.50 crores in their purse to fill up the remaining 8 slots. They traded out Devdutt Padikkal for INR 7.75 crore and took in Avesh Khan for INR 10 crore.
IPL 2024 RR Retained Players
Rajasthan Royals Squads retained most of their key players and shied away from some startling release of players. They released the likes of Jason Holder and Joe Root. They retained 16 players ahead of the IPL 2024 auction.
