Fazalhaq Farooqi

The highest wicket-taker of the T20 World Cup 2024 Fazalhaq Farooqi was Born on 22 September 2000 in Baghlan, Afghanistan, he is one of the most lethal bowlers to play for Afghanistan. Fazal participates in international as well as various competitions around the world, which also includes IPL.

Fazalhaq Farooqi Career

Fazalhaq Farooqi has played first-class domestic cricket, List A for Amo Region, and T20 for Boost Defenders. He started his first-class career in the Ahmed Shah Abdali Tournament in 2017 and List A career in the Ghazi Amanullah Khan Regional ODI Tournament in 2018. Talking about T20, he debuted for Boost Defenders in the Shpageeza Cricket League in 2019.

Farooqi's name was included in the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup, after which he joined Afghanistan's Test team in February 2021 but didn’t get to feature in the longest format. After a month Fazalhaq Farooqi made his debut for Afghanistan in T20 format and the next year he landed his foot in the ODI.

In February 2022, Sunrisers Hyderabad included Farooqi in their squad for Rs 50 lakh and till now Farooqi is associated with the SRH team in IPL. Apart from IPL, Colombo Star included Fazalhaq Farooqi in their squad for the third edition of the Lanka Premier League in July 2022.

Fazalhaq Farooqi was signed by Sydney Thunder in November 2022 in the Big Bash League and the very next month he was removed from the team due to some controversial action and his contract was also terminated by the franchise.

Fazalhaq Farooqi Domestic Career

Fazalhaq Farooqi started his domestic cricket in the Ahmed Shah Abdali Tournament where he played his first match for Amo Region against Boost Region on 13 November 2017 where he performed averagely taking only one wicket for 116 runs in 27 overs. Farooqi has played a total of 12 matches so far in his first-class career, in which he has taken 22 wickets in 21 innings.

Fazalhaq Farooqi started his List A career in the Ghazi Amanullah Khan Regional ODI Tournament where he went wicketless for 49 runs in 9.5 overs in his debut match for Amo Regions against Kabul Region on 10 July 2018. Farooqi has played a total of 38 matches in his List A career, in which he has taken a total of 50 wickets at an economy of 5.85.

Fazalhaq Farooqi started his T20 career in domestic cricket on 14 October 2019 for Boost Defenders in the Shpageeza Cricket League against Band-e-Amir Dragons where he had a disappointing performance in his first match conceding 22 runs at an economy of 11 in two overs and failed to take even a single wicket.

Fazalhaq Farooqi IPL and other Franchise cricket

Fazalhaq Farooqi started his IPL career in 2022 for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Before making his debut in IPL, he was a net bowler in the teams of Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab in 2020 and 2021. After this, in 2022, Sunrisers Hyderabad bought him for Rs 50 lakh.

Farooqi made his debut in the Indian Premier League on 8 November 2022 at the Wankhede ground against Royal Challengers Bangalore and his performance in the first match was nothing special where he spent 47 runs in four overs at an economy of 11.75 and didn't take a wicket

Farooqi could play only three matches in the 2022 IPL and four in 2023, after which he did not get the opportunity to play even a single match the next year.

Apart from IPL, Farooqi has been seen in various competitions on behalf of many franchise teams. Farooqi was signed by Sydney Thunder in November 2022 in the Big Bash League, and the very next month he was dropped from the team due to controversies, and his contract was also terminated.

Farooqi plays for Colombo Stars in the Lanka Premier League and MI Emirates in the International T20 League. Apart from this, Fazalhaq Farooqi is also seen playing for Toronto Nationals in the Global T20 League Canada.

Fazalhaq Farooqi International career

Fazal Farooqi's name first appeared in the Afghanistan national team in February 2021 when he was included in the squad for the Test series against Zimbabwe, but Farooqi could not get the opportunity to play any Test match. The very next month, He was included in the squad for the T20 series against Zimbabwe and played his first international match on 20 March in Abu Dhabi.

Fazalhaq Farooqi made his ODI debut on 25 January 2022 against the Netherlands in Doha. Farooqi still hasn’t played a single test match for Afghanistan. Recently in the T20 World Cup, Fazal Farooqi occupied the first place in the list of highest wicket-taker bowlers along with Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh.

T20I Career

Fazalhaq Farooqi started his T20 career against Zimbabwe on 20 March 2021 in Abu Dhabi where he performed averagely in his debut match, taking one wicket in four overs at an economy of 6.75.

After playing his debut match, Fazalhaq Haq Farooqi did not get the opportunity to play another game in 2021, but the next year, he took 20 wickets in 16 matches and cemented his place in the team.

Fazalhaq Farooqi gave his best performance in the format by taking five wickets for 9 runs in the T20 World Cup against Uganda. Fazalhaq Farooqi's performance in the T20 World Cup was excellent where he took 17 wickets in eight bounds and became the highest wicket-taker of the tournament along with Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh.

Due to his excellent performance in the World Cup, the Afghanistan team was able to reach the semi-finals of an ICC tournament for the first time. In his short career of 3 years in this format, Fazalhaq has played a total of 42 matches in which he took 54 wickets.

ODI Career

Fazal Farooqi started his ODI career on 25 January 2022 against the Netherlands in Doha where he took one wicket in his first match. Fazalhaq Farooqi's performance in the ICC World Cup to be held in 2023 was nothing special where he took only 6 wickets in 6 matches, four wickets out of 6 wickets he took against Sri Lanka on October 30 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association ground, which is also the best performance of his ODI career.

He has played a total of 32 ODI matches so far in which he has taken 44 wickets.

Fazalhaq Farooqi Under-19 Career

Fazalhaq Farooqi played four matches for Afghanistan in the Under-19 World Cup 2020, in which he took five wickets. Farooqi was the third bowler to take the most wickets for Afghanistan in the tournament, after Noor Ahmed and Safiullah Ghafari.
