Mohammad Rizwan

Mohammad Rizwan is a Pakistani cricketer who was born on June 1, 1992 in Peshawar, North-West Frontier Province. He is a right-handed batsman who is also a talented wicketkeeper.

Rizwan’s Test debut was against New Zealand at Seddon Park on November 25, 2016, his ODI debut was against Bangladesh at Shere Bangla National Stadium on April 17, 2015 and his T20 debut was against Bangladesh at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Apr 24, 2015.

He played well in international matches and proved to be an effective member. His position is the team was of much speculation. In early 2017, he was not selected for the Caribbean tour.

Mohammad Rizwan Tests

After spearheading his domestic side SNGPL to Quaid-e-Azam Trophy glory in consecutive seasons- 2014/15 & 2015-16- Mohammad Rizwan earned

his maiden Test call-up for Pakistan's tour of New Zealand in the winter of 2016. He played his maiden Test in Hamilton, where he managed just 13 runs in 1 inning.

Sarfaraz's axing in 2019 brought him back in the Test set-up, and during the course of the next overseas cycle, the Peshawar stumper proceeded to establish himself as one of the mainstays of the Pakistan batting line-up.

He struck a brilliant 95 at the Gabba in his first Test post his comeback, and what followed over the course of the next 12 months truly elevated his status in the longest format of the game.

He averaged 44.25 (177 runs in 2 matches), 40.25 (161 runs in 3 matches), 43.00 (215 runs in 3 matches) in Australia, England and New Zealand respectively during the 2019-20/21 overseas cycle.

Since the start of 2020, Rizwan is one of the three Pakistani batters to rack up 1000+ runs. His maiden hundred- 115* off 204- came against South Africa in Rawalpindi in 2021. He backed it up with a match-saving unbeaten 104 against Australia in Karachi in March 2022. Barring that determined knock in Karachi, Rizwan made just 36 runs from five innings. He scored just one run in the final Test in Lahore where Pakistan lost 115 runs along with the series 0-1.

Rizwan's returns started to diminish as he scored 120 runs against Sri Lanka in four innings at an average of 30. It just got worse when he amassed 141 runs against England in six innings at 23.50 and Pakistan suffered a 0-3 whitewash at the end of 2022. As a result, Rizwan was benched for the two Tests against New Zealand while Sarfaraz Ahmed returned back to the side.

Mohammad Rizwan ODIs

Rizwan made his ODI debut against Bangladesh in April 2015, and gave a decent account of himself with a 58-ball 67 in his maiden innings. A good start against the likes of Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe was eventually followed by an extended lean patch, which saw him lose the wicketkeeper slot to Sarfaraz Ahmed.

In his first 25 ODIs, Rizwan managed just 460 runs at 28.75 apiece, and he was eventually dropped from the set-up following a disastrous series in Australia in 2017, where he managed just 51 runs in 4 innings at 17 apiece.

He racked up 2 100s against Australia in the UAE ahead of the 2019 World Cup, but it was not enough for him to earn a place in the World Cup squad.

With Sarfaraz Ahmed dumped and ousted from the side following Pakistan's premature exit from the World Cup, Rizwan made his way back into the ODI set-up as a first-choice keeper, but he is yet to turn his fortunes around in this format.

Rizwan has a different role in the ODI team unlike in the T20I side. He is considered a key batter in the middle order for the longer formats and given the range of shots he has under his repertoire, the wicketkeeper is expected to up the scoring rate.

Since 2022, Rizwan has scored 542 runs in 19 innings at an average of 31.88 with five fifty-plus scores. He had a great run against New Zealand to kick off 2023. He scored identical scores of 77 in the first and third ODI in Karachi. The difference between those two knocks was that Rizwan remained not out in the first match and guided his side to a six-wicket victory while the hosts lost in the series decider.

Mohammad Rizwan T20Is

Mohammad Rizwan made his T20I debut against Bangladesh in April 2015, but it was only after the axing of keeper-batter Sarfaraz Ahmed in September 2019, that he finally managed to claim a permanent position in the T20I set-up.

His peak as a T20I batter started in 2021 when he smashed his maiden 50+ score- against New Zealand in Napier- and then his maiden hundred in his very next innings against South Africa in Lahore.

Since the start of 2021, no one has scored more T20I runs than Rizwan's 2147 (in 44 innings @ 65.06/131.47). In 2021, he became the first batter in T20I history to rack up as many as 1326 runs (in 26 innings @ 73.66/134.89) and more than 2000 (2036) in overall T20s.

He finished as Pakistan's 2nd leading scorer in the T20 World Cup 2021 and the highest scorer in Asia Cup 2022- 281 runs @ 56.20/117.57- although his sedate approach in the powerplay attracted him a lot of criticism.

After the Asia Cup, Pakistan hosted England for a 7-match T20I series, and in the 2nd game, Rizwan and Babar scripted history as the duo gunned down England's total of 199 to become the most prolific pair in the international T20s.

Rizwan and Babar have batted 52 times in T20Is, and have racked up 2538 runs, including nine 100+ run partnerships, and the next best pair is India's Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul with 1897 runs in 42 innings.

Although Pakistan lost the series 3-4, Rizwan scored the most runs from both teams - 316 runs in six innings at a strike rate of 138.60. In September 2022, Rizwan dethroned Babar Azam to become the ICC's No.1 ranked T20I batter, with his career rating points peaking at 875.

Rizwan scored 201 runs from five matches in the tri-series against New Zealand and Bangladesh in the build-up to the T20 World Cup. The Pakistan wicket-keeper struggled with form in the group stage where he managed 103 runs in five innings but found back his mojo in the semi-final against New Zealand with 57 runs off 43 balls. However, Rizwan made just 15 runs in the final against England as Pakistan ended up as runners-up of the tournament.

Mohammad Rizwan PSL Career

Mohammad Rizwan has represented Lahore Qalandars (2016-17), Karachi Kings (2018-19) and Multan Sultans (2020- present) in his 6-year-old PSL career so far.

Apart from being a prolific scorer at the top of the order, Rizwan has also tasted success as captain when he led Multans Sultans to title glory during the 6th season. He spearheaded his side with the bat, scoring 500 runs in 391 deliveries @ 45.45/127.87.

Rizwan was adjudged the 'Player of the tournament' for his exploits with the bat and behind the stumps in the 7th edition held in March 2022. With 546 runs in 12 innings @ 68.25 and a strike rate of 126.68, Rizwan finished as the second-highest run-scorer.

Rizwan made 550 runs at a strike rate of 142.85 to win the Green Cap in PSL 2023. The Multan Sultans skipper scored his maiden PSL century (110*) against Karachi Kings in a narrowly three-run win in Multan. He was also adjudged best batter and best wicketkeeper of the tournament. Rizwan led Multan Sultans to its third straight PSL final but lost to Lahore Qalandars by just one run in a 201-run chase.

After the conclusion of PSL 8, the Pakistan gloveman has scored 1996 runs in 60 PSL innings at an average of 43.9 and a strike rate of 128.60 with 16 fifties and a solitary century.
