Though Rassie van der Dussen made his domestic debut in 2008, he started his international career after a decade. van der Dussen represents the Lions in South African domestic cricket.

Rassie van der Dussen has been associated with various clubs as well. He played for the Vancouver Knights in the first season of Global T20 Canada and came out to be the leading scorer of the tournament. He scored 255 runs in matches and was praised for his performance.
He was also a member of the Jodi Stars in the 2018 Mzansi Superleague where he again emerged as the top scorer of the tournament. He scored 469 runs and helped the Jodi Stars to clinch the inaugural season of the tournament.
Apart from these clubs, he has played for Highveld Lions and Northerns as well.

Rassie van der Dussen made his IPL debut for the Rajasthan Royals against Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2022. He was bowled for 4 runs by Krishnappa Gowtham. As of IPL 2024, he has scored 22 runs in 3 innings. In the recently concluded IPL 2025 mega auction, van der Dussen registered himself for a base price of INR 2 crore but unfortunately went unsold.

Rassie van der Dussen made his ODI debut against Pakistan on 19 January, 2019, at Port Elizabeth. He played remarkable innings but missed his debut match century by 7 runs. He scored 93 runs off 101 balls with 6 boundaries and three sixes. But in the end, he remained on the losing side as Pakistan managed to win the match by 5 wickets.
van der Dussen featured in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 and was South Africa’s second-highest run-scorer of the tournament. He became the oldest South African batter to score a century in ODIs against Pakistan in 2021. After a stellar year with the bat, he was featured in the ICC ODI Team of the Year 2021, as per ICC’s official website. In the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, he accumulated 448 runs in 10 innings, including two half-centuries and two centuries each.

Rassie van der Dussen made his T20I debut on 9 October 2018, against Zimbabwe at East London. He made 56 runs off 44 balls with 5 boundaries and a six. This innings helped South Africa to beat Zimbabwe by 34 runs.
As of November 2024, van der Dussen scored his highest T20I score of 94 not out against England in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021.

Before the start of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Rassie van der Dussen was named the stand-in skipper for the T20I series of South Africa’s tour of the West Indies in May 2024. He was at the receiving end of the captaincy as the South African team succumbed to a whitewash by a margin of 3-0.
In October 2024, van der Dussen was named as the stand-in captain in an ODI against Ireland after regular skipper Temba Bavuma had suffered an injury. He has also been the vice-captain of the Lions’ team in domestic cricket in 2017-18.
