Born on July 8, 1991, in Johannesburg, South Africa, Devon Philip Conway is a left-handed wicket-keeper batter who represents New Zealand internationally. He announced himself in the international arena as a late bloomer, debuting at 29 in a T20I against West Indies in November 2020.
Conway started his domestic career in South Africa and moved to New Zealand in 2017. He has featured as an opener across all formats. Devon Conway started career at the age of 18 in South Africa. To pursue his cricketing career, he moved to New Zealand in August 2017 and has made strides in his cricketing career since then.
Devon Conway Domestic Career
Devon Conway was born and brought up in South Africa. He started his professional career in the South African domestic circuit when he made his List-A debut for Gauteng in 2009. He was selected for Gauteng in the Africa T20 Cup in 2015.
In August 2017, Conway moved to New Zealand to pursue his cricket career and was signed by Wellington in 2018. He was the leading run-score in the Super Smash as well as the Plunket Shield tournament. Conway was awarded the Men’s Domestic Player of the Year award in 2019 and 2020.
Devon Conway IPL Career
Devon Conway was bought by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2022 mega auction for a mere INR 1 crore, which was considered an absolute steal back then. He made his IPL debut against the Kolkata Knight Riders on March 26, 2022, and had a decent season with the bat in his debut season, scoring 252 runs in 7 matches.
Conway unleashed his best in the following season, where he was instrumental in CSK lifting their fifth IPL title as the southpaw amassed 672 runs at a strike rate of 139.71 in 16 matches. He was also adjudged the ‘Player of the Match’ in the final against the Gujarat Titans in that season, where he scored 47 off 25 balls in a rain-curtailed thrilling finale at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Conway has been ruled out of the IPL 2024 season after he suffered an injury in a bilateral series against Bangladesh earlier this year.

Born and brought up in South Africa, Devon Conway got an opportunity to represent the national team in New Zealand when he shifted to the latter country in 2017. The International Cricket Council (ICC) granted eligibility for the left-hander to represent the Blackcaps at the international level in late 2020.

Devon Conway made his maiden T20I appearance against the West Indies on November 27, 2020, in Auckland and scored a match-winning 41 off 29 balls.
