Dewald Brevis Career
Dewald Brevis, a South African cricketer who goes as Baby AB or Junior AB, is known for his destructive batting. Brevis holds the record for most runs in an Under-19 Cricket World Cup series with 506 runs at the 2022 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. In men's T20 cricket, he is also the youngest South African player to make a century. In his 162-ball performance, Brevis took 52 balls to reach 150, the quickest score in T20 cricket history. He made his international T20I debut for SA in 2023 and is currently playing for MI in the IPL.
Dewald Brevis Domestic Career
Ahead of South Africa's domestic cricket season in 2021–2022, he signed a contract with Northerns in April 2021. On October 8, 2021, he played in the 2021–22 CSA Provincial T20 Knock-Out tournament for the South Africa Under-19s against Easterns, making his T20 debut. He scored 46 from 25 balls.
On December 2, 2022, he played for the Titans against the Lions in Centurion, making his List A debut. He made his first-class debut on the 26th of February 2023, at Durban, with the Titans against the Dolphins.
Brevis equals the third-highest score in the world and holds the record for the highest T20 score in South Africa. Brevis blasted 162 runs off just 57 balls for the Titans against the Knights on 31st October 2022.
When he hit the milestone after just 52 deliveries, he also set a world record for the fastest T20 150. Furthermore, he became the youngest South African to score a 100.
Dewald Brevis IPL Career
Because of his exceptional World Cup batting performance, he was one of the top picks in the IPL 2022 mega auction. After a heated bidding war, the five-time champion Mumbai Indians paid a staggering INR 3 crore to acquire Dewald Brevis.
In the seven games (161 runs at a strike rate of 142.48) he played for MI in the IPL 2022 season, he showed glimpses of his talent. Prior to the 2023 IPL, Brevis was signed by the Mumbai Indians team for the same sum of money INR 3 crore. But Brevis, the newest Proteas star, was never given the opportunity to play on the big stage in the IPL 2023 season
MI decided to retain him for the 2024 season. In his ten IPL games so far, Dewald Brevis has scored 230 runs in scoring. His highest IPL score is 49 runs. Throughout his IPL career, Dewald Brevis has hit 17 fours and 16 sixes.
