Heinrich Klaasen was named as a late replacement by the Rajasthan Royals for Steve Smith who was banned from playing in the Indian Premier League 2018 for indulging in the infamous sandpaper scandal against South Africa in a Test in March 2018. Klaasen was bought by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (now Royal Challengers Bengaluru) for INR 50 lakhs and yet again he did not get enough opportunities to prove himself at the mega event. After a four-year hiatus from the IPL, Klaasen made a comeback to the tournament when the Sunrisers Hyderabad acquired his services for INR 5.25 crores in the IPL 2023 auction and he did not disappoint the management as Klaasen was the sole bright spot in an otherwise dull campaign for the Orange Army who had finished last in the table.
Klaasen had a stellar year with the bat, scoring 448 runs in 12 matches at a staggering strike rate of 177.08, including a century against the Royal Challengers Bangalore which consisted of 8 boundaries and 6 sixes.
