The Royal Challengers Bangalore a.k.a. RCB is a franchise cricket team based in Bangalore, which participates in the Indian Premier League. Royal Challengers Bangalore was founded in 2008 by United Spirits. The team has M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore as its home ground. Under the fresh captaincy of Faf du Plessis, the team came third in IPL 2022. This time around, they will be looking to redeem themselves and lift their maiden IPL Trophy.

2022

• Under the new captaincy of Faf du Plessis, RCB fared better than last year. They went past the Eliminator stage but were defeated by Rajasthan Royals in the 2nd Qualifier.

2021

• RCB qualified for the playoffs for the second consecutive year. Similar to last year, they could not pass the Eliminator round.

2020

• The Virat Kohli-led unit made its way to the playoffs for the first time since 2016, but eventually bowed out of the competition following their defeat to the SunRisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator.

2019

• The Challengers endured a wretched season in 2019 as they managed a mere 5 victories in 14 league games, thereby finishing with the dreaded wooden spoon.

2018

• Another season where the Royal Challengers Bangalore flattered to deceive, finishing at the 6th spot with 6 wins in 14 outings.

2017

• After the high of 2016, the Challengers endured an absolute nadir in the following season as they could manage just 3 wins in 14 outings to finish at the last spot in the points table.

2016

• The closest RCB came to winning the elusive IPL title thanks to an unbelievable season from skipper Virat Kohli, who went on to hammer 973 runs and as many as 4 hundreds.

• Kohli took his side to the finals, where they eventually came short against SRH in a high-scoring affair.

2015

• In 2015, RCB did decently well to finish at the 3rd spot in the points table at the culmination of the league stage.

• They beat RR in the Eliminator but eventually came short against CSK in Qualifier 02.

2014

• The Challengers had another poor season in 2014 as they finished at the 7th (2nd last) spot with just 5 wins in 14 outings.

2013

• Virat Kohli took over the leadership duties from Dan Vettori at the start of the season.

• However, RCB failed to make it to the playoffs as they finished at the 5th spot, with 9 victories in 16 outings.

• Their most memorable moment of the season proved to be the majestic 175 that Chris Gayle scored against the Pune Warriors XI, which helped them to post the highest total in IPL history (263/5).

2012

• After the high of 2011, RCB endured a frustrating 2012 season as they finished just outside of the top-4 spot, thanks to the lower Net Run-rate than the Chennai Super Kings.

2011

• A season of two extreme halves. In the first half, RCB couldn't buy a win for their lives. Then, Dirk Nannes got injured and the management named Chris Gayle as a replacement.

• It proved to be masterstroke as Gayle went on to hammer bowling attacks throughout the season to power his team to the finals, where they eventually lost to the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings.

2010

• In this season, RCB finished at the 4th spot after registering 7 wins and as many defeats in 14 league fixtures.

• However, they eventually lost the semi-final to the Mumbai Indians by 35 runs to bow out of the tournament.

2009

• After a disappointing inaugural season, the Royal Challengers Bangalore stormed back brilliantly to qualify for the finals under the able leadership of Anil Kumble.

• However, they failed to cross the final hurdle, eventually losing to the Deccan Chargers in a thrilling finale.

2008

• The Challengers were at the receiving side of a brutal onslaught from KKR's Brendon McCullum in the opening game of the inaugural season. McCullum hammered a breathtaking 158* (73) to not only light up the tournament but also choke the stuffing out of RCB.

• RCB lost that game by 140 runs, and could never recover from it, eventually finishing at the 7th spot.

1. Virat Kohli

With Virat Kohli springing back into form in international cricket, he will certainly be the biggest threat for any other IPL team. His ability to pace his innings according to the situation and his incredible chasing record makes him one of the best batters in world cricket. We might see a repeat of his glorious 2016 season.

2. Glenn Maxwell

His ability to hit unorthodox shots and maneuver the field to his advantage makes him one of the most destructive batters in the tournament’s history. He can both smash the ball out of the ground and also reprimand his team’s innings by playing without taking any risks, causing the oppositions to fear him.

3. Wanindu Hasaranga

After an extremely successful IPL season in 2022, Hasaranga will possess a huge threat to all the opposition teams. His right-arm leg break bowling is almost unplayable for batters and after taking 26 wickets last year, he will be back this year with high confidence.

4. Josh Hazlewood

In the last couple of years, Hazlewood has trained himself into becoming one of the most lethal bowlers in T20 cricket. He has learnt multiple variations with his deliveries and is efficient at both ends of an innings.

5. Mohammed Siraj

Siraj’s ability to bowl proper line and length has led to him being retained by the Royal Challengers Bangalore. He is useful in the opening overs and although he might get hit for runs, he is always among the wickets.
