Mayank Agarwal scored a lot of runs In the 2010 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He started his IPL career in 2011 with Royal Challengers Bangalore (now Royal Challengers Bengaluru). He made his debut in international cricket in the Test series against Australia in 2018.
Mayank Agarwal Domestic Career
Mayank Agarwal started his domestic career in the year 2010. In 2013, he made his first-class career debut against Jharkhand but in future matches, he was not able to play as per his potential. In 2014-15, Mayank suffered fitness issues and had to work on physical as well as mental strength. He came out of this phase strongly. In the 2017-18 Ranji Trophy, he scored a triple century while batting for Karnataka against Maharashtra. In the same month, he scores 1000 first-class runs.
These powerful batting performances made him the leading run-scorer in the 2017-18 Ranji Trophy as he ended the tournament with 1,160 to his name. He was also the leading run-scorer in the 2017-18 Vijay Hazare Trophy where he scored 723 runs in just eight matches. He scored 2,141 runs in the 2017-18 domestic season, which is the most by any batsman in an Indian domestic season. Following his excellent performance in Ranji and Vijay Hazare Trophy, he was named in India B’s squad for the 2018-19 Deodhar Trophy.
Mayank Agarwal IPL Career
In 2011, Mayank Agarwal was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore (now Royal Challengers Bengaluru) for IPL 2011. His performance in IPL was underwhelming. In 2014, he was bought by Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) and left them to join Rising Pune Supergiant in 2017. Following his excellent performance in the 2017-18 domestic season, a lot of the IPL teams were interested to pick him for the 2018 IPL. He was finally picked up by Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) for the IPL auction price of Rs 1 crore and he delivered the goods for them in his stint with the team as he had his career-best seasons with the Kings for three consecutive years, including his personal best season of scoring 424 runs in 11 matches at a strike rate of 156.45, where he had also scored his maiden IPL century against the Rajasthan Royals.
Agarwal was appointed as the skipper of Punjab Kings in IPL 2022 after their former skipper KL Rahul was drafted into the newly inducted Lucknow Super Giants but had a below-par season, both as a skipper as well as a batter. In the IPL 2023 auction, he was roped in by the Sunrisers Hyderabad for an amount of INR 8.75 crores.

Mayank Agarwal was named as a replacement for the injured Vijay Shankar at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 but did not get to make his ODI debut. He later made his ODI debut against New Zealand in Hamilton on February 05, 2020. He has played only 5 matches and managed to score 86 runs, with his last ODI game coming against Australia in Sydney on November 29, 2020.

Mayank Agarwal was named in India’s Test squad for the series against team West Indies in 2018 but didn’t play. His Test debut came against Australia in December 2018 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. He scored 76 runs in the first inning, the highest by an Indian cricketer on Test debut in Australia, and broke the 71-year-old record of Dattu Phadkar.
Agarwal scored his maiden Test century against South Africa at Vishakhapatnam in October 2019 and converted his maiden Test century into a double century. He overtook Sir Don Bradman’s record of being the quickest to two double-centuries in terms of innings (8) when he scored his second double-century against Bangladesh in November 2019.
Despite scoring 1488 runs in 21 matches at a healthy average of 41.33, the Karnataka batter has been sidelined from the scheme of things in the longest format owing to stiff competition, having played his last Test against Sri Lanka on March 12, 2022, in Bengaluru.
