Career
The 24-year-old Marco Jansen started his career in List A cricket for North West in the 2017–18 CSA Provincial ODI Challenge on 8 April 2018. He also made his first-class debut for North West in October this year in the CSA 3 Day Provincial Cup.
Marco Jansen made his debut for the South Africa Under-19 team on the India tour in 2019, after which he participated in several T20 competitions.
Marco Jansen has played T20 competitions for the Knights in the SA T20 Challenge and Durban Heat in the MJansi Super League competition. Marco Jansen made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians against Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2021, after which Sunrisers Hyderabad included him in their squad in the next year's mega action.
Marco Anshan's international career started in Test cricket in 2021 where he got a chance to make his international debut in the Test series against India.
Along with the red ball, Marco Jansson's white-ball career also begins against India where he gets the opportunity to debut in both the ODI format and T20 format in 2022.
Domestic Career
Marco made his List A debut in April 2018 for the North West Dragons in the CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge. He has now played 13 List A games, picked 16 wickets, and scored 112 runs.
His 14-match First-Class career began in October 2018, once again for North West Dragons in the CSA 3-Day Provincial Cup. In the longer format of the game at the domestic level, Jansen has picked 54 wickets at an average of 22.96 and scored 440 runs including 3 half-centuries.
The left-arm pacer has picked 6 wickets in 10 T20 games and has scored 71 runs so far with the highest score of 47. Marco made his T20 debut for the Knights in April 2019 in the CSA T20 Challenge.
IPL Career
The 20-year-old has been handed his first IPL contract by the Mumbai Indians for IPL 2021 and debuted in the league the same year. Marco has played his first IPL match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on 9 April 2021. In that match, Marco took two wickets for 28 runs in four overs. Marco Jansen's first IPL wicket came in the form of Glenn Maxwell.
After playing just two matches for Mumbai in his first season, he was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for a sum of Rs 4.2 crore in the 2022 Mega Action. Despite his mediocre performances for Sun Rises Hyderabad, Marco Jansen has been retained by the franchise for the last 3 years.
Marco Jansen International Career
Marco Jansen was first named to the South African national team for the Test series against Pakistan in January 2021, but he still had to wait a few months for his first international match.
The same year, Marco's name was once again included in the Test series against West Indies but once again he was deprived of playing even a single match. Finally, on 26 December 2021, Marco made his international debut in a Test match against India.
Marco also got the opportunity to make his debut in the ODI format in January 2022 and the T20 format in June 2022.
Coincidentally Marco has made his debut in all three international formats against India.
Marco Jansen Test Career
Marco Jansen played its first international match in the Test format on 26 December 2021 against India at the Centurion Ground.
He took five wickets in his first match and his first international wicket came in the form of Jasprit Bumrah.
Marco has so far taken five wickets in only one innings, which he took against England at the Kingston Oval in 2022.
Marco has proved himself many times in this format not only with the ball but also with the bat. He has also scored two half-centuries in Tests.
According to May 2024, Marco has taken 49 wickets in 22 innings of Test matches at an economy of 3.38 and he has scored 401 runs in 21 innings at an average of 23.58 and with the help of two half-centuries.
Marco Jansen ODI Career
Marco Jansen played his first ODI match against India on 19 January 2022 in Paarl, in which Marco failed to take even a single wicket.
Marco played only three ODI matches in 2022 in which he collected only two wickets.
In 2023, Marco made a brilliant comeback by taking 33 wickets and scoring 406 runs in 20 matches.
Marco Jansen’s best bowling performance came in 2023 against Australia at the Wanderers Stadium where he dismissed 5 Australians for 39 runs in eight overs.
His best performance while batting came against England at the Wankhede Stadium where he scored unbeaten 75 runs on 42 balls with an excellent strike rate of 178.257.
Marco Jansen T20I Career
Marco Jansen started his T20 career on 17 June 2022 against India at Rajkot ground. While bowling in this match, he took one wicket in the match which was recorded in his account in the form of Shreyas Iyer.
Marco has so far been able to participate in only four matches in the T20 format where he has taken 6 wickets while bowling. Marco's best bowling performance came against West Indies at Super Sports Park on 26 March 2023 where he took three wickets for 52 runs in four overs.
Marco Jansen Under 19 Career
Marco Jansen was named to the South Africa national under-19 team in 2019 when the team toured India. Marco Jansen played two Youth Test matches during that period and was the highest wicket-taker bowler of the series taking 8 wickets in two innings.
Background
Hailing from Klerksdorp, Marco Jansen started playing domestic cricket at the age of 18. He has pursued his education in Laerskool Goudkop. Marco has a twin brother named Duan, who made his domestic cricket debut a couple of months after him. Considered one of the upcoming stars, he will be wearing the Mumbai Indians Team Blue and Gold for the first time in IPL 2021, after being scouted by them for the last two years or so. He has impressed his former national captain, Quinton de Kock, who also plays for the Mumbai Indians.
