The Punjab Kings a.k.a. PBKS is a franchise cricket team based in Punjab, which participates in the Indian Premier League. The franchise was founded in 2008 under the name Kings XI Punjab, which was rebranded as Punjab Kings in 2021. The team has PCA Stadium in Mohali for its home ground. Shikhar Dhawan will lead the side in the 2023 season of the Indian Premier League. Punjab Kings is yet to win an IPL trophy.

PBKS History

2008

1. Local boy, Yuvraj Singh was appointed the captain for the first season of the IPL in 2008.

2. KXIP finished third in the first IPL season.

2009

1. KXIP couldn't repeat the heroics of 2008 and failed to reach the playoffs.

2. KXIP finished the tournament in 5th place.

2010

1. Kumar Sangakkara appointed KXIP's captain.

2. KXIP finished last at the 8th position.

2011

1. Adam Gilchrist replaced Sangakkara as the captain.

2012

1. KXIP finishes last at the 6th position.

2013

1. Another disappointing year as KXIP finishes the season at the 6th place.

2014

1. George Bailey became captain

2. The KXIP squad and its fans had to face despair as they finished runner-up losing to KKR in the finals.

2015

1. George Bailey continued as the captain.

2. KXIP finished the season at the bottom of the table at 8th place.

2016

1. David Miller was handed leadership duties.

2. Luck didn’t take KXIP 's side for the second season in a row and they again ended the season in 8th place.

2017

1. Glenn Maxwell was appointed the team's captain.

2. It was an uneventful season for Kings XI Punjab and they finished fifth on the table.

2018

1. Ravichandran Ashwin was appointed as the captain.

2. Kings XI Punjab had an amazing start winning most of their games in the beginning of the season.

3. They however go off track mid-way through the tournament and go on a losing streak.

4. Kings XI Punjab finished seventh.

5. Andrew Tye finished the season with 24 wickets.

2019

1. Another year but the same story for the KXIP squad.

2. Kings XI Punjab again falter after a brilliant start.

3. Another disappointing year as KXIP finished the season at 6th place.

2020

1. KXIP player list added the following players before the 2020 IPL- Krishnappa Gowtham, Jagadeesha Suchith, Glenn Maxwell, Chris Jordan, James Neesham, Deepak Hooda, Tajinder Singh, Simran Singh, Sheldon Cottrell, Ishan Porel, Ravi Bishnoi.

2. Kings XI Punjab finished 6th on the points table

2021

Punjab Kings IPL 2023 Squad: Players to Watchout

#1. Shikhar Dhawan

The skipper of the Punjab Kings will have a lot of responsibility on his shoulders as he goes on to lead the side for the first time. Dhawan emerged as the top-run scorer in the previous season with 460 runs and he will be expected to reciprocate his batting prowess in this year as well. He is a vastly experienced campaigner and led the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the previous edition. Hence, the side will count on him to finally bring the trophy home.

#2. Kagiso Rabada

The South African bowler doesn’t need any introduction as everyone is well aware of the lethal pace that Rabada generates which can startle even the best of batsmen. He is amongst the world’s greatest fast bowlers at the moment and he proved his mastery by picking 23 wickets in the previous edition of the IPL. Rabada will have the responsibility to lead the bowling attack and show his skills in the beginning and at the death.

#3. Shahrukh Khan

This talent impressed everyone with his batting while playing as a finisher for the side. With his debut in 2021, he showcased his wide array of shots and his ability to strike big against the white ball. He will be heavily backed by the franchise to give strength to the batting line-up in the death overs and add those useful runs at crucial moments.

#4. Arshdeep Singh

This young man rose to the opportunity and really turned things around for himself in the IPL. His brilliant display of bowling earned him a national call-up and since then, Arshdeep has been on fire! He can bowl toe crushing yorkers as well as get you those important wickets. Punjab Kings would love for him to collaborate with Rabada and bring in great results with the ball.

#5. Jonny Bairstow

The English wicketkeeper, Jonny Bairstow has troubled a lot of bowlers with his stroke play up the order. He was highly successful, dominating at the start of the innings, which is what Punjab Kings would like for Bairstow to do this season. The franchise lacks the foundation at the top and they can resolve this problem in the form of Bairstow. His performance will be of high value to the Kings for a good start in the 16th edition of the IPL.
