Kyle Jamieson Career
Though Kyle Jamiseson has flourished in his career, constant injuries have hurdled his career on a vast note. The towering bowler has the potential to bowl at the batsman fiercely with his high release point, making him a dangerous bowler.
Kyle Jamieson Domestic Career
Kyle Jamieson made his first-class (FC) debut in 2014 for the Canterbury cricket team against Wellington. In the fixture that lasted from October 25 to 28, Jamieson returned wicketless and could not contribute a single run. He has played 51 first-class matches in his career so far, scalping 181 wickets at an excellent average of 22.20.
Jamieson had already played List-A cricket before earning a place in the Canterbury first-class squad. The Kiwi player received his maiden List-A cap on April 2, 2014, versus Wellington. Incidentally, he had not scored a run nor taken any wickets on his List-A debut as well. However, now, Jamieson has 53 List-A wickets in 43 matches.
Shifting the focus to his T20 career, the tall fast bowler has dismissed 75 batters in 66 T20 fixtures. His best bowling figures of 6/7 show how he can single-handedly turn the game with his wicket-taking abilities.
Jamieson also has a brilliant batting strike rate of 132.58 in the game’s shortest format.
He has represented Surrey in 5 T20 matches but has only taken only a solitary wicket.
Kyle Jamieson IPL Career
Kyle Jamieson made his IPL debut for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (now Royal Challengers Bengaluru) against Mumbai Indians in IPL 2021. Jamieson earned a whopping INR 15 crore deal from the Bengaluru-based franchise at the IPL Auction 2021, making him the most-paid New Zealander in IPL auction history.
Jamieson played a total of nine matches and took 9 wickets at an average of 29.89 and an economy rate of 9.60, but he could not live up to his price tag.
In the IPL 2023 auction, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) snaffled him up for INR 1 crore, which was considered a major steal, considering the huge price tag that he had shouldered previously. However, Jamieson could not feature in a single game for the Men in Yellow as he was ruled out of IPL 2023 due to an injury and could not be part of the eventual victorious campaign.
Kyle Jamieson International Career
Kyle Jamieson has made appearances across all formats of the game for New Zealand. Though he has been a major force to reckon with in Tests, the lanky bowler has missed out on numerous major occasions for the Black Caps.
Kyle Jamieson ODI Career
Kyle Jamieson appeared in the international arena for the first time during a home ODI fixture against India in Auckland on February 8, 2020. The all-rounder won the Man of the Match award on his ODI debut by scoring 25 runs and dismissing Prithvi Shaw and Navdeep Saini.
Jamieson last featured in an ODI for the Black Caps in New Zealand’s tour of Bangladesh in September 2023, prior to the ICC Cricket World Cup (CWC) 2023. He added 20 vital runs lower down the order and also picked up the crucial wickets of skipper Liton Das and Nasum Ahmed.
Initially, he was drafted as a cover for New Zealand’s squad for the CWC and was named as a replacement for injured Matt Henry. He has taken 14 ODI wickets in 13 matches so far.
Kyle Jamieson Test Career
Kyle Jamieson made his Test debut against India, soon after his ODI debut, on February 27, 2020, in Wellington.
He picked a four-wicket haul on his Test debut innings and picked up some big wickets, including that of skipper Virat Kohli on his Test debut.
He scored a valuable 44 runs lower down the order as New Zealand won the match comprehensively by 10 wickets.
He won the Player of the Match award in his second Test. Playing at Hagley Oval, Jamieson picked up a five-wicket haul in the first innings and missed out narrowly on a half-century by scoring 49 runs, to set up New Zealand’s victory.
Kyle Jamieson’s Test career peaked when he was the driving force that helped New Zealand win the inaugural World Test Championship (WTC) on June 23, 2021, in Ageas Bowl, Southampton. He picked up a crucial five-wicket haul in the first innings and ensured that there was no room for improvement for the eventual runners-up.
Coming in at No.8, Jamieson also added 21 runs lower down the order. He picked up a couple of wickets in the second innings and skipper Kane Williamson and veteran Kiwi batter Ross Taylor ensured that the Black Caps won the final comfortably by 8 wickets.
Jamieson also became the fastest New Zealander bowler to take 50 Test wickets in the first Test in New Zealand’s tour of India in November 2021 in Kanpur. Jamieson last featured in South Africa’s tour of New Zealand 2024 where he picked up 6 wickets across the two innings, including a four-wicket haul in the second innings. He was ruled out for at least a year after suffering yet another back stress fracture in the first Test against the Proteas.
