Yash Thakur Domestic Career
Yash Thakur made his domestic debut for Vidarbha against Punjab in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2016-17. He had a forgettable debut as he returned wicketless and was expensive with the ball, with Punjab winning the match comfortably by 6 wickets.
Thakur made his First-Class debut for Vidarbha against Chhattisgarh in the Ranji Trophy 2018-19. He took a total of three wickets across the two innings as Vidarbha thumped Chhattisgarh by 10 wickets. He had a special maiden campaign as Vidarbha finished as runners-up.
The Vidarbha pacer made his T20 debut in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2018-19 against Himachal Pradesh. He picked up 2 wickets for 32 runs as Vidarbha won by three wickets. Thakur’s Vidarbha finished as runners-up in the recently concluded Ranji Trophy 2023-24 after losing out to Mumbai by a mammoth margin of 169 runs. Though he took three wickets apiece in each innings, Mumbai was too good to lose the match.

Yash Thakur played as a net bowler for Punjab Kings before making it to the Lucknow Super Giants squad.
Following his impressive domestic performances, Thakur earned an IPL contract when LSG signed the Vidarbha pacer for INR 45 lakhs in the IPL 2023 auction. He did not take much of time to establish himself in the IPL as he picked up 13 wickets in 9 matches in his maiden campaign, including a four-wicket haul against Punjab Kings.
Thakur yet again impressed in the following edition of IPL in 2024, picking up 11 wickets in 10 games. He took his maiden IPL five-wicket haul against IPL 2023 runners-up Gujarat Titans as the Super Giants defended 163 and won by a healthy margin of 33 runs.
With that fifer, he became the seventh uncapped player to take a five-wicket haul in IPL history after Ankit Rajpoot (KXIP), Varun Chakaravarthy (KKR), Harshal Patel (RCB), Arshdeep Singh (PBKS), Umran Malik (SRH) and Akash Madhwal (MI). Thakur has all the potential to become a noteworthy bowler in IPL if he works on his economy.

Yash Thakur featured in the victorious India Under-19s side that won against Sri Lanka Under-19s in the ACC Under-19s Asia Cup 2016 under the leadership of Abhishek Sharma. He picked up a total of 9 wickets in 5 games as India Under-19s defeated Sri Lanka Under-19s in their backyard by 34 runs.

Yash Thakur lost his father Ravi Thakur on his 25th birthday in December 2023 and dedicated the ‘Player of The Match’ award for his maiden five-wicket haul in IPL to his late father. In an interview with the Indian Express, his mother Kajal Thakur said that he was stoic enough to deal with his father’s demise and did not even shed a drop of tears. Thakur also has a sister named Shweta Thakur.
