Swapnil Singh: A Brief Biography

33-year-old Indian cricketer Swapnil Singh, who was born in Rae Bareli district of Uttar Pradesh, is seen playing for Uttarakhand at the domestic level and Royal Challengers Bangaluru team in the IPL.

Apart from Royal Challenge Bangalore, Swapnil Singh has also represented Mumbai Indians, Kings XI Punjab, and Lucknow Super Giants.


Swapnil Singh Career

Swapnil Singh's career has been full of ups and downs. Despite achieving big records in the early days of his career, Swapnil Singh has been able to play only 9 IPL matches today. Swapnil Singh was selected in the Indian 25-man squad for the 2008 Under-19 World Cup but unfortunately, he could not go to Malaysia.

Swapnil Singh made his first-class debut for Baroda at the age of 14 years and 355 days. Despite being a bowling all-rounder, Swapnil honed his batting skills with time and played important innings for his teams in domestic cricket. Swapnil Singh, who had the second-best bowling performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, scored the highest 565 runs in the 2017-18 Ranji Trophy.

His name was included in the 2016 IPL auction due to his bowling figures 6/19 in the 2015 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. In the 2016 IPL auction, Kings XI Punjab included Swapnil Singh in his team for INR 10 lakh. Swapnil Singh made his IPL debut in 2016 and after featuring in four games of IPL 2017 he waited for the next six years for his other IPL game which came in 2023 for Lucknow Super Giants, currently Swapnil Singh plays for Royal Challengers Banglore in the league.

Swapnil Singh Domestic Career

Swapnil Singh started his domestic career in the 2006 Ranji Trophy match for Baroda against Hyderabad when he was 14 years 355 days old.

Despite being a bowling all-rounder, Swapnil Singh has also made significant contributions as a batsman and batsman in first-class cricket, where he scored the highest score of 565 runs for Baroda in the 2017–18 Ranji Trophy. After playing first-class cricket for Baroda from 2006 to 2020, Swapnil Singh joined the Uttarakhand team and now plays domestic cricket from there.

In his first-class career so far, Swapnil Singh has taken 181 wickets at an economy of 2.93 and 2727 runs at an average of 26.022 in 76 matches, which also includes two true innings in his name.

Swapnil Singh started his List A career on 5 March 2008 against Maharashtra in the Vijay Hazare Trophy where he took 1 wicket for 48 runs in 7 overs while bowling.

Swapnil Singh has played a total of 63 matches in his List One career so far.

In which he has taken 67 wickets at an economy of 4.47 and scored 1153 runs at an average of 25.006. He came into the limelight in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2015 when he impressed everyone with the second-best bowling performance (6/19) of the tournament. Only after this, Kings XI Punjab included him in their team in the IPL 2016.


Swapnil Singh IPL Career

Swapnil Singh had been a part of the Mumbai Indians team in 2008 before being bought by Kings XI Punjab for Rs 10 lakh in 2016, but he could never be included in the Mumbai Indians squad.

Swapnil Singh played his first IPL match for Punjab Kings in 2016 against Kolkata Knight Riders where he gave 29 runs in three overs but did not take any wicket, after which the next year he played the total for Punjab Kings. Played four matches in which he took one wicket which was of Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

After 2017, Swapnil Singh had to wait for 6 long years to play his next IPL match when Lucknow Supergiants included him in their team for INR 20 lakh in 2023. In 2023, Swapnil Singh played two matches yesterday but once again he was disappointed. Till 2023, Swapnil Singh could take only one wicket in 7 IPL matches and managed to score 14 runs yesterday.

Before the 2024 IPL, Swapnil Singh joined the Royal Challenger Bangalore team, after which his IPL career took a new turn and he bowled in a total of seven matches in 2024, taking 6 wickets and scoring 37 runs yesterday.


Swapnil Singh Under 19 Career

Swapnil Singh was among the 25 members of India's U-19 team for the U-19 World Cup 2008 but he didn’t make it to the final squad for the World Cup.
