Mominul Haque made his List-A debut for Dhaka Division against Barishal on January 7, 2009, in the National Cricket League One-Day tournament in Savar. He made his T20 debut for the Bangladesh Cricket Board XI against the West Indians on October 9, 2011, in Fatullah. In the Bangladesh Premier League, Haque played for the Rangpur Riders in the 2023-24 season.

Mominul Haque made his Test debut against Sri Lanka on March 8, 2013, in Galle. He scored a half-century in the first innings. Haque scored his maiden Test century against New Zealand on October 9, 2013, in Chattogram. He scored 181 runs in the second innings and it was the highest maiden Test century scored by a Bangladeshi batter.
In 2014, Haque became the fastest to score 1,000 runs in Test cricket by a Bangladeshi batter. He became the first Bangladeshi batter to score a century in each of the innings in a Test against Sri Lanka in Chattogram on January 31, 2018. In the recently-concluded Bangladesh’s tour of India in September 2024, the former Bangladesh skipper became only the second batter from Bangladesh to score a Test century in India, after Mushfiqur Rahim.
With the ball, Haque has taken 10 wickets to his name, as of November 2024.
