Career

Nitish Rana started his first-class career in 2016 for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy and in the same year, he got his first IPL match.

Nitish Rana played his first international match in the ODI format in 2021 against Sri Lanka, which is his first and only ODI match so far.

In the same series, Nitish also got the opportunity to make his T20 debut but after that one series, Rana is still waiting for his comeback in the Indian team.

In the absence of Shreyas in the 2023 IPL, Rana was made the captain of KKR.

Domestic Career

Nitish Rana made his first-class debut in the Ranji Trophy in the year 2016 and made 557 runs in the season at an average of 50.63 and soon, he stood as one of the leading run scorers for the Delhi team. He scored 299 runs at an average of 42.71 and a strike rate of 175. 88 at the 2016 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Rana turned out to be the 2nd highest run scorer in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2016.

While playing against Andhra in a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match, he led Delhi to a score of 236 for 9 in 20 overs in the otherwise situation of 40 runs with the top 4 batsmen back in the dugout. Rana once again proved his will after Delhi was three down without even getting to 10 runs. He struck 53 off just 29 balls helping his team chase the Baroda's total of 153.

While playing against Jharkhand, he stunned everyone with his unbeaten innings of 60 runs off just 44 balls in a situation where Delhi had lost the first 3 wickets for just 14 runs. Delhi went to taste a 5-wicket win in the match after Rana's much-needed contribution.

After his debut IPL season, Nitish Rana in the 2017-18 Ranji season churned out 613 runs in 8 games at an average of 55.72. In October 2018, he was named to India A's squad for the 2018–19 Deodhar Trophy.

IPL Career

Rana's Indian Premier League (IPL) journey started with the Mumbai Indians (MI) in 2015. In a team that was packed with an overdose of talent, Rana had to wait for his chances, which came in spurts in 2016 and capitulated him into fame in 2017 - where he made 333 runs from 13 matches. Although he lost his form in the later stages of the tournament the initial burst provided by Rana went a long way as Mumbai Indians won their second IPL trophy.

After he was released from the duties of MI, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) swooped in ahead of the 2018 auctions and snaffled up the rockstar from Delhi. Since then, he has been an integral part of the franchise setup. In the 2018 edition, he played 15 matches and scored 304 runs.

He had a decent outing in the 2019 edition of the IPL with 344 runs from 14 matches at a strike rate of 146.38. Rana adds an X factor to the side with an ability to stabilize the innings and accelerate when required.

Rana has always got starts in the tournament but his conversion rate has been rather dismal and if he can work on it and come out stronger in the 2020 season, then he could very well be knocking on the Indian national team's doors.

In 2023, in the absence of Shreyas, Nitish Rana was also made the captain of KKR in which his performance was nothing special. Under the captaincy of Nitish Rana, KKR played 14 matches, out of which Mahesh won only six matches, and that year KKR could not qualify for the playoffs.

Nitish Rana International Career

In June 2021, Nitish Rana was included in the ODI and T20 squad for the tour of Sri Lanka. In this period, Nitish Rana took his first step in international cricket by making his debut in both formats, but after that series, Nitish Rana has not been able to play a single international match till now.

Nitish Rana has been unable to make a comeback into the team after appearing in just one ODI and two T20 matches in the Sri Lanka tour in 2021.

Nitish Rana ODI Career

Nitish Rana, who came to bat at number seven, scored seven runs on 14 balls and was caught by wicketkeeper Bhanuka on the ball of Dhananjaya.

This is the only match of Nitish Rana's career in this setup, after which he didn’t get the opportunity to play even a single ODI match.

Nitish Rana T20I Career

In the same tour where Nitish Rana started his ODI career, Rana also got a chance to play his first T20I match. Nitish Rana started his international T20 career in the second match of the T20I series against Sri Lanka in Colombo on 28 July 2021. Nitish Rana, who came to bat at number five, scored 9 runs on 12 balls and gave his wicket to Sri Lankan bowler Chamera.

In the third T20I match of the series, which was played in Colombo the very next day, Nitish Rana, once again batting at number five, scored six runs in 15 balls and lost his wicket on the ball of Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka.

After consistently disappointing with his bat at the international level, Nitish Rana has been unable to make a comeback in any format so far.
