Right then, the Gujarat Titans cruising along to a title win in their debut season and boy, do they deserve it. They've been exceptional throughout the course of the past couple of months and have put on performances that will be cherished in the years to come. A rare season overall, where the likes of MI and CSK found themselves at the bottom of the points table but take nothing away from the Titans, they have played like true champions. It has been an absolute pleasure bringing to you every game from the fifteenth edition of the IPL. Stay tuned to Sportskeeda for the latest news and live coverage of games from all across the globe. We leave you to figure out how your days ahead will pan out post 7:30 pm. Until next year then, when IPL will return in all it's glory, we take your leave! On that note, this is me, Maanas Upadhyay, alongside Shashwat Kumar, Sooryanarayanan Sesha and Pratyush Rohra signing off! Good night and adios!
The IPL trophy is handed over to Hardik Pandya and the team basks in all the applause! Fireworks illuminate the sky! The champions of IPL 2022 - not many gave them a chance at the start of the tournament but haven't they come up trumps and shown the world what a spirited team with a gun bowling outfit can do. This could be the start of a new era in the IPL. And speaking of a new era, we could well see the Rajasthan Royals carve a niche for themselves as well. They've played like champions right through the tournament themselves and can be mighty proud of their efforts. A certain great man named Shane Keith Warne sure will be from the heavens above - this Royals outfit is here to stay and make a mark in the years to come!
Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah present the winning cheque of Rupees 20 Crores to Hardik Pandya! Here's what the winning captain has to say: The kind of support the whole support staff has shown the players has been fantastic This is the right example for the world that if you can get the right players and build a team of good people around you can win. Ashu Pa and I are similar in the sense we like to play proper bowlers who can win matches all day. Obviously the batters will chip in and put their hand up on their day whenever needed but more often than not it's the bowlers who win games. (On his conversations with Gary Kirsten) We always spoke about what are the things we missed out and how we can get better. A lot of credit goes to the whole support staff - Ashish Nehra, Ashish Kapoor, Gary, the physio...they all ensured we were comfortable. I count myself lucky - I've been in 5 finals and have won 5 times. This is going to be exciting since we spoke about creating a legacy and making sure that in generations to come, people will remember that this was the team that started this journey. To win the championship in the first year is fantastic. (Message thanking the crowd) Bahut saras ramya, thank you! Thank you Gujarat!
The winners award is awarded to the Gujarat Titans comprising of limited edition IPL watches. Ashish Nehra collects the award on behalf of the Titans.
The runners-up cheque of Rupees 12.50 Crores along with a runners-up trophy is handed over to Sanju Samson. A few words from the ever-smiling skipper: Absolutely. As you rightly said, this season was very special for us. In the last 2-3 seasons the Rajasthan Royals fans out there were having a hard time but this time we were able to give them some happy moments and play some good cricket. I'm really proud of my team. We've had some really great youngster and senior players, who have played as a unit. An off day today but I'm really proud of my team. (On playing five bowlers throughout) Right from the auction, we wanted to have some quality bowlers. Quality bowlers win you tournaments and that's what we believed in. We had that kind of bowlers and they did really well. (On his own form) The role was completely different this year with having Jos playing throughout the 20 overs. All the batsmen had a different kind of mindset, to play around him and play in different kinds of situations and strike rates to take on the bowlers. It was a decent season for me. Had some nice 30s and 40s, happy with them but as we keep growing, we keep getting better and keep learning. There is a lot more to learn. A huge congratulations to Gujarat Titans, they really deserved to win tonight.
The runners up award is presented to the Rajasthan Royals. The team is awarded with limited edition IPL watches. Kumar Sangakkara collects the award on behalf of his side. Hear from the man: (What has been most satisfying this season?) I just think that the way the team focused together and played a lot of good cricket - we went through a few ups and downs but we had a lot of skill. We had contributions from Jos, Yuzi and Ash, Prasidh Krishna coming in, Boulty, Hetmyer - we can go on and on meaning that everyone in the side contributed. We had a strong core of about 9 players around which we changed the team based on the opposition and the conditions. Overall it's a great feeling to be a part of this franchise. (His message for some of the younger players in the side today?) Number one, appreciate the journey and all the good things that we've done. We also have to be realistic about things we could have done better when we get here next year. It's never about recreating what's been done before but always looking forward. The change in mindset is something you have to embrace so by the time they go from here they will reflect on it and it'll shape them as individuals.
The match officials are presented the tournament souvenirs!
UpStox Most Valuable Player is, there's no guessing here, Jos Buttler! Time to hear from the man himself: It does (feel satisfying). Obviously, it exceeded all my expectations of the season apart from today, managing to take home the trophy we really wanted. Disappointed with that one but I want to say a big congratulations to Hardik and his team. They are deserving champions and congratulations to them. My goals are to play my role for the team and try to react on the day, depending on what the game is asking me to do and play accordingly. The good thing was being able to get a good start to the tournament and managing to take that confidence forward. In good teams, you have a lot of trust in everyone. I certainly have huge trust in everyone in our team. We all played fantastically well this season and came up short today but as I said on my own game, I'm just trying to react on the day. If the game is asking me to be aggressive or not, I trust myself to make the right decision. Very grateful for the opportunity to play today. We're extremely disappointed and that's natural. I've lost plenty of finals in my career unfortunately but today's been an amazing occasion. It's been a fantastic tournament. After having two years without the crowd, to come here and play has been an absolute privilege and for all the young guys in our team to soak it up and use the hurt from today to push you on further in the rest of their career.
The Catch of the Season award goes to Evin Lewis for pulling off a one-handed stunner to dismiss Rinku Singh, which turned the tide in LSG's favour. Here's what he has to say in a pre-recorded message: I'm really delighted to win the best catch of the season award. It has been an amazing season with crowds back at the stadium. I would like to thank the fans for their support.
Should just leave Jos Buttler on that stage alongside the dignitaries, no? Absolutely gut-wrenching for him to not end the season as an IPL champion.
