That's it for this start-and-stop match, folks! Shame we couldn't get a full game. For now, it's Rudransh and Mohul signing off for Sportskeeda!
The news from the centre is that the match has been called off due to rain. India take the win because of their higher ranking and move on to the semi-finals!
It's not an undeserved win for Smriti Mandhana's team. They completely dominated with the bat with key performances from the skipper, Shefali Varma, Jemimah Rodrigues and a stunning cameo from Richa Ghosh. Only two balls were bowled in the second innings before rain interrupted play for the third time.
Malaysia showed good fight in pockets. Their plans were good but just lacked the execution in terms of lengths and fielding. It's an unfortunate result for them because even batting a few overs and getting bowled out chasing the massive target would have been a big learning experience for their batters.
India have a lot of batting momentum behind them. Malaysia have a few lessons to take from their bowling and the tournament goes on!
She hasn't had a lot to do in this match but Deepti Sharma has been in the middle of everything India has achieved in the past few years. Here's Sportskeeda's exclusive interview with her to keep you entertained during the break!
The rain is back! Groundsmen run in with the covers and we are up for another delay just after the second innings started.
0.2 Pooja Vastrakar to Winifred Duraisingam, at a length outside off, moves away a tad. Duraisingam goes back and looks to cut but gets an inside edge. And what are we seeing here? The skies have opened up again!
0.1 Pooja Vastrakar to Ainna Hamizah Hashim, at a length outside off, moves away. Hashim runs it down to wide of third man and gets off the mark!
We are back! Pooja Vastrakar is opening the bowling for India. Ainna Hamizah Hashim and Winifred Duraisingam are at the crease to open for Malaysia.
Richa power to end the innings and cap off a dominating batting performance from India to kick of the 2023 Asia Games campaign!
Innings break!
India Women score 173/2 in just 15 overs (DLS). Malaysia Women need 174 runs in 15 overs to win at 11.6 runs/over.
India have absolutely nailed this batting performance here. It was the perfect display against an inexperienced side, with clear intent from ball 1 till the final delivery. Mandhana started superbly, getting a lot of sweeps against the spinners out to the square leg boundary. Shafali struggled a bit at the start for timing but her partner didn't let her feel the pressure.
Thailand had good plans in place for both but just lacked the execution in lengths. Mandhana finally gave in first, once again against an off-spinner, with a soft dismissal. Jemimah entered and brought a long-ish rain delay with her. After the break, the Indians just turned the switch on.
Malaysia tried to keep them guessing with constant bowling changes but Shafali's timing went up a notch. Instead of just using power, she tried to find gaps and found a good run. Jemimah batted quicker than usual on the other end too and rotated the strike beautifully.
Shafali was trapped in front by Elysa against the run of play in the 13th over but Malaysia didn't get enough time to celebrate. Richa Ghosh came in and proved all her critics with a last-over performance only she's capable of to take India to an almost impregnable total.
