Commentary

The New Zealand players pose with the trophy. It wasn't a straightforward series for them by any means as they were pushed to the limit by this Irish side. However, they've come through to clean sweep the Irish and pick up 30 points on their way. All smiles as far as the visitors as concerned. Two heartbreaks in less than a week's time for Ireland. While there will be plenty of positives to take from this one, they'll be regretting not getting any points on the board.

Tom Latham (New Zealand captain): They've been fantastic. Right from the first game to today. It's been an outstanding series and full credit goes to the groundsman to produce a wicket like that. It was a nice morning and the weather was pretty hot. We wanted to get on a big score to put them under pressure but credit to Ireland the way they came out. Harry and Stirling put on a big partnership but the way our bowlers responded was quite pleasing. He (Santner) was great. He is a world-class bowler and has great control. In those stages of the game, he is a pretty crafty customer. All the guys who bowled at the backend were great in executing the plans. The guys are playing great and it's a pleasure to lead them.

Andy Balbirnie (Ireland Captain): It is (a bitter pill to take). What an amazing day of cricket. The way the Blackcaps played, we were toe-to-toe with them all the way. A bitter pill to swallow but we can be proud of our performances. (On the tons from Stirling and Tector) Two of the better hundreds I've seen from Irish players. They put on a great partnership and put us in a winning position. Harry's grown from strength to strength over the week and it's great to see. It's really exciting to see where he can go next in his career. We want to be playing these teams regularly. We can go toe-to-toe with them as I said. We showed glimpses against India and now here as well. Looking forward to the T20s.

Michael Bracewell (Player of the Series): I've had an amazing series. Hats off to Ireland. They've had an excellent series and pushed us till the end in every game. It's a privilege to put on the New Zealand jersey every time. You never start the tournament by thinking you'll be the man of the series but it's good to get it. We wanted 30 points out of this series and it's great to bag them.

Martin Guptill (Player of the Match): It's been an exciting series. My first time in Ireland and it's been a fantastic week. Nice to have had a break after our home season. Lockdown last year pushed our season back and it's great to have had a bit of a break before coming over here. I feel I left a few more out there. I could have added a few more runs. I lost my dad five years ago and it was nice to recognize him up there.

New Zealand's experience comes to the fore once more and they emerge triumphant against the underdogs. Ireland, to their credit, came close to pulling off memorable upsets twice in this series but they had that stolen away from them at the very end on both occasions. Still an air of disbelief amongst the Irish fans and players after a gut-wrenching loss.

After Martin Guptill was at the forefront for New Zealand as they posted a mammoth total on the board, some would have reckoned that the game was over right there and then. However, the hosts had other ideas. Paul Stirling came out with a point to prove, smashing a sensational century in his 179-run stand alongside Harry Tector. A series of dropped chances and missed runouts added more drama to an already exciting run chase.

Courtesy of that massive stand, the hosts seem well on course to chase down the enormous target but New Zealand held their nerve and showed their class. Ireland lost was momentum once Stirling was dismissed by Matt Henry, who kept chipping away at regular intervals while Santner did his bit as well, but the threat of Tector was still lurking.

The youngster notched up his second century of the series but was dismissed soon after by Santner, which broke the game open for the visitors. Ireland did well to hang in there and take it as deep as they could. with Dockrell but ran out of firepower towards the backend of the innings. With 10 runs needed off the final over, Tickner wrapped up a nail-biting victory for the visitors, helping them clinch the series 3-0.

Blair Tickner pulls it off for New Zealand and he can have a little dance about that one as well. Head in hands for Ireland. They cannot believe they've let this one slip. New Zealand clinch a humdinger of a contest by 1 run and clean sweep the series 3-0.

Dug into the pitch and outside off, Hume is undone by the lack of pace on that as he misses with his big hoick across the line. The ball goes through to the keeper as the batters sneak in a bye but that is all that they can manage. New Zealand win by 1 run and win the three-match series 3-0.
