That is it from the first match of the day on this double-header day at PSL! What a match this was and now we have 3 out off the 4 spots in playoffs confirmed. There is another match in which Quetta Gladiators will go against Lahore Qalnadars in just a while. Make sure you join us for that! For now, this is Sourabh and Bidipto taking your leave, see you soon!
Shadab Khan (Islamabad United captain) - It is all about backing our players and that is what we try to do. Imad is a match-winner for us and we know what he can do, nice to see him do well today. The total was definitely a big one but we knew that with the batting line-up we have we can chase anything down. The wicket was a typical Pindi wicket so we knew that we had a chance. We have backed Munro, he is an important player for us, hopefully he recovers quickly, we will give him milk and turmeric powder (laughs).
Mohammad Rizwan (Multan Sultans captain) - In these kind of high-scoring contests, the finishing touch matters and they applied the finishing touches well. We had plans for Munro and even after the injury we were not execute the plans. We have made a few mistakes, a few field placements were wrong from myself too, will try and learn from them in the next match.
Colin Munro has been adjudged the Player of the Match! Here is what he has to say.
Colin Munro: It was a hell of a game alright! We didn't bowl quite well, but Usman Khan batted really well. To lose Alex Hales early wasn't nice, but my injury kind of resurrected things. That injury did release the pressure and it's a part of the game really, that the mental side of things click. I was out of form and then this happened to get me going! Imad Wasim was highly impressive today with bat in hand! He delivered under extreme pressure. Let's see how the body holds up now, but I'm not sure about things to be honest. Will try to make every effort to get back on the park though.
It's time for the post-match presentation!
Imad Wasim (Islamabad United): It was the same last year, but we weren't able to finish it. I was the batter against the same bowler, but this time, I'm glad that we could do it! We had the belief that we would chase down anything on this wicket. Shadab and Colin's partnership was excellent and then my partnership with Faheem was icing on the cake! I was getting out cheaply before this but today I wanted to take it deeper and bat more responsibly. We should applaud Usman Khan's knock, it was amazing! Colin's intensity with bat in hand today after the injury was top-class! Our focus now is to be razor-sharp in the play-offs as anything can happen in those matches. We have to press for the win and remain positive, like we are.
MATCH SUMMARY
Islamabad United won by 3 wickets
Colin Munro 84(40) | Faheem Ashraf 2/32(3) Usman Khan 100(50) | Abbas Afridi 3/40(4)
WHAT AN ABSOLUTE THRILLER as Islamabad United record the third-highest successful run chase in PSL history and book their spot in the playoffs of this season.
Rawalpindi has yet again produced a high-scoring thriller on a batting paradise and we are definitely not complaining. It was runs galore from the beginning to the end and none of the bowlers were spared.
Chasing a huge target off 229, Islamabad got off to the worst start they could have imagined as Hales got out for a golden duck with Willey snaffling him up in the first over. Agha Salman soon followed him back to the pavilion and Islamabad were reeling at 4/2 inside 2 overs. It looked like it would get even worse for them as Colin Munro soon found himself lying flat on the ground having done some damage to his hamstring.
But that injury proved to be a blessing in disguise for Islamabad as Munro started smoking it to all parts. He got together with skipper Shadab Khan and the duo put on a show for the fans at the Pindi stadium. They spared no one and were particularly harsh against the leg spin of Usama Mir who eventually conceded 68 off his 4 overs did the highest-wicket taker of the tournament.
They put on 141 runs off a mere 62 deliveries before Abbas Afridi came into the act. He got two wickets in over, dismissing Shadab and Azam Khan, getting his team right back into the contest. Munro soon departed too after playing a scintillating knock of 86 but then the all-rounders took over.
Haider Ali and Faheem Ashraf chipped in with handy contributions but it was Imad Wasim's 30* off 13 which eventually took Islamabad over the line.
Abbas Afridi was the pick of the bowlers for Multan with 3 wickets, Mohammad Ali chipped in with 2 wickets too on what was a graveyard for the bowlers.
Earlier in the piece, Multan had got to a huge score on the back of a breathtaking 100* from Usman Khan. His partnership with Johnson Charles was key for the table-toppers and they accelerated beautifully for them after a quick start they got from Yasir Khan.
With the ball, Islamabad were decent but can't really complain on this kind of pitch. Faheem got 2 wickets while the Shah brothers got a wicket each

19.6 Abbas Afridi to Imad Wasim, round the wicket, FOUR MORE! ISLAMABAD UNITED ARE GOING TO THE PLAY-OFFS AND IT'S IMAD WHO DOES IT FOR THEM! Really full on off-stump. Imad was way inside the box and brought the bat down on the ball through the line, as well as, powerfully. The ball raced along the turf past the bowler in his follow through and the left of mid-off for a boundary to end the match with a massive run chase! The crowd at Rawalpindi has been given a tremendous farewell!
