So, that will be all from this match at the Marvel Stadium in Melbourne. Join us again tomorrow afternoon for another exciting game in this wonderful T20 competition! This is the pair of Pragadeesh and Bidipto taking your leave. Keep following Sportskeeda!
Jake Fraser-McGurk (Player of the Match) - We were nervous when we needed 1 run but Tommy did the job for us. We wanted to go for the surge and we don't want to risk him. Shaun knows how to chase and he stabilised in the innings well. He will be massive for us going forward. I do enjoy hitting the six and happy with my batting
Melbourne Renegades win by 4 wickets with 8 balls to spare!
Jake Fraser-McGurk 70 (37) | Mujeeb Ur Rahman - 3/20 (4) Chris Lynn 56 (34) | David Payne - 3/37 (3.4)
So, after a series of changes, Will Sutherland's first match as captain results in the first win of the season for the Renegades, that too at home!
It wasn't going to be an easy chase by any means and the first ball dismissal of Quinton de Kock made matters worse, but, what followed changed the course of the game completely!
Jake Fraser-McGurk joined Joe Clarke out in the middle and the duo started powering their way through the mess! Clarke had to retire hurt due to an injury, out came the experienced Shaun Marsh and continued the good work with the young right-hander.
The Renegades turned on the style and reached three figures will within 10 overs! The partnership between Marsh and Fraser-McGurk went beyond 50 in no time and still, they did not stop! Some of the shots both played against both seam and spin were splendid!
When the explosive young right-hander departed, Jonathan Wells continued the press for victory and strung together a 25-run stand with Marsh, again in quick time. When he went though, the Strikers sensed another wicket and got rid of Mackenzie Harvey too!
But just when things got interesting, Sutherland came out, blasted a couple of sixes in the Power Surge and very much put the game to bed then and there! But a shot too many cost him his wicket.
Clarke returned to hit a boundary and it was case where Marsh could strike the winning run with 12 balls left. Unfortunately for him, David Payne cleaned him up with a magnificent yorker. Interestingly enough, Clarke left the field retired hurt for the second time!
But, Tom Stewart Rogers ensured that with 8 balls remaining, the Renegades got the job done! Adelaide Strikers now have lost 8 straight games away from home in the BBL.
18.4 David Payne to Tom Rogers, ROGERS HITS THE WINNING RUNS AND THE RENEGADES GET THEIR FIRST WIN ON THE BOARD. Pitched up on a fuller length and it's been lofted over mid-off for one
18.3 David Payne to Tom Rogers, pitched up on middle stump. It's another yorker and Rogers digs it to the leg-side
Adam Zampa, RHB, is at the non-striker's end. He has replaced Joe Clarke.
Joe Clarke retired hurt 28 (19b, 4x4, 1x6)
Tom Stewart Rogers, LHB, is at the crease.
So, it is not to be for Marsh to finish it off but what a finish from Payne here to clean up the experienced batter!
18.2 David Payne to Shaun Marsh, BOWLED! Nails the yorker on middle stump, Marsh tries to flick this but can't get underneath it. The ball cannons on the base of the leg-stump
Shaun Marsh b David Payne 54 (33b, 3x4, 4x6)
Well, had he let that go, it would be a wide to win the match! But who wants to end it that way?
18.1 David Payne to Shaun Marsh, off-pace delivery down the leg-side, Marsh throws his blade but can't beat short fine leg
