A fine performance by the Chepauk Super Gillies and they're off the mark in the competition. It's taken them three games but they'll take it with both hands. Lots to ponder over for the Ruby Trichy Warriors though as they suffer back-to-back defeats. Momentum is a crucial factor in this tournament and the last thing a team would want is to play catch-up for too long.
Kaushik Gandhi (Chepauk Super Gillies Captain): Definitely happy. We knew what those two guys (Radhakrishnan and Sasidev) were capable of. We always know what they bring to the table since they've been hitting the ball very well in practice. We knew we had three big-hitters to follow and take us to a competitive total and that's exactly what happened. (On another slow start to the tournament) We don't look into it as much as you guys but we take each game as it comes.
S Radhakrishnan is the Player of the Match for his flamboyant knock of 81 off 49 deliveries. Hear from the man himself: (What is it with the Warriors that he loves scoring against them?) When you get familiar with the bowling it's of course easy but every game is a new game. (On the multiple hesitations while batting with Jagadeesan) There was a lack of communication but there's always that adrenaline rush which aids you to make a mistake out in the middle. It happens but it could have been better.
Rahil Shah (Ruby Trichy Warriors Captain): I think we leaked a lot of runs in the middle. They played well but our execution was not on the mark. I think we gave about 25 runs extra. (On Murali Vijay's absence) He's out for personal reasons, hopefully he'll be back in the next match. (On the next game against Lyca Kovai Kings) It'll be a very interesting match - it's a do or die match for us. Let's see how it goes.
Chepauk Super Gillies 203/8 (20) beat Ruby Trichy Warriors 159/6 (20) by 44 runs. S Radhakrishnan 81 (49) | Uthirasamy Sasidev 65 (35) | Ajay Krishna 3/33 (4) S Santosh Shiv 59 (38) | S Harish Kumar 3/25 (4) | R Alexander 2/19 (3)
A clinical display by the Chepauk Super Gillies and if anything, this sure didn't indicate a side that had lost its opening two encounters. Professionalism at its best all the way, led by a stellar partnership between S Radhakrishnan and Uthirasamy Sasidev, whose half-centuries powered the defending champions to a total of 203, despite a late burst of wickets from the Warriors.
Sandeep Warrier gave S Santosh Shiv a lifeline, castling him off a no ball off the very first delivery he sent down of the second over. The southpaw was keen on making his new lease of life count as he tore into the bowlers at will. At the other end, Amith Sathvik took a lot of time to get into his groove but he too, found his mojo.
The spinners kept it largely tight and the asking rate continued to mount. An intriguing move to throw the ball to Rajagopal Sathish backfired for the Super Gillies as the Warriors' opening duo used that opportunity to break free at will. It took R Alexander to break the 87-run stand as Sathvik was castled, even as Shiv went on to notch up a half-century.
A double-strike from Harish Kumar signaled the beginning of the end though. Two excellent catches from Sai Kishore and Warrier ensured that the set batter Shiv, as well as debutant N Niranjan were on their way back. An assortment of quality overs followed soon after, with Warrier pounding the deck hard and giving them nothing to work with.
It was a struggle for Muhammed Adnan Khan and Adithya Ganesh as the asking rate reached insurmountable heights. Ganesh did tee off towards the end but it was a case of 'too little, too late', as the Super Gillies wrapped up a handsome victory to get on the board.
A professional defense from the defending champions and that truly was the performance of a multiple-time champion. Chepauk Super Gillies beat Ruby Trichy Warriors by 44 runs and open their account for the season!

19.6 R Alexander to P Saravana Kumar, drifts in full from around the wicket, Saravana plays down the original line with a stride but it thuds into his pad. And that is that - Chepauk Super Gillies win by 44 runs!
19.5 R Alexander to M Mathivannan, shortens his length a touch, Mathivannan rocks back and pulls towards wide long on for a single.
