Commentary

A pretty one-sided affair with the Saint Lucia Kings securing a place in the playoffs and moving to the second spot in the points table. Barbados Royals stay at first but there net run rate has taken a dip. That is all from the action here, this is Sourabh and Darpan taking your leave, good bye.

Faf du Plesis (Saint Lucia Kings' captain): Extremely proud of how the guys played. Even before the game, we knew spin was going to play a big role. We bowled 15 overs of spin, the guys bowled really well. Starting off with Alzarri, getting Quinny was important, he has scored 70% of the runs. Keeping yourself busy is important on this kind of a wicket or you can get stuck and try to hit your way out. I'm a big fan of going with the group together, unless there is a niggle, we will continue with the same, continuity is really important for me.

Rovman Powell (Barbados Royals' captain): It was a difficult wicket. Having said that, 4-5 wickets in the powerplay is unacceptable. Not much we can do, all the teams have quality bowlers, there will be a ball with your name on it. Having said that, we have to play well, coming from the other islands, this wicket is a step back. We are still playing good cricket, we will try to improve on the small 10-15% and come up again.

Alzarri Joseph [4/22, Player of the Match]: "We knew that it was going to be a low-scoring wicket. For me, it was about keeping it straight. Some were going to bounce and some were going to stay low. (On Quinton de Kock's wicket) I was trying to angle the ball into the stumps and it worked out well. As I said, it was about bowling straight at the stumps."

97 was never going to be enough of a target but the Saint Lucia Kings have cruised this and got home comprehensively with 37 balls to spare and in doing so have sealed a place in the playoffs for themselves.

The only way for the Barbados Royals to make this a fight was to pick up early wickets and to be fair to them they did pick up a couple early. Jason Holder got Johnson Charles in the second over and then Theekshana removed Auguste in the next over. The start was what the Royals wanted but then they simply did not have enough to defend.

Skipper du Plesis and Chase got together and played some lovely shots and steadied the ship for the Kings and removed any kind of doubts in the camp. They looked calm and took the team out of a tricky situation. du Plesis did get out a short while after the powerplay but Chase kept on going from the other end.

He was joined by Seifert after du Plesis departed and the pair made sure that there were no hiccups and took the Saint Lucia Kings comfortably to the target and into the playoffs courtesy two points.

13.5 Nyeem Young to Roston Chase, HERE IS THE WINNING RUN! And guess what? He gets that with the backfoot punch - a shot that has been super productive for Chase today. He opens the face a bit to guide it towards deep point and jogs to the other end to secure the win as well as playoff qualification for the Kings.
