Commentary

A complete domination from South Africa, they are looking the likely team alongside India to qualify for the final of the tri-series. It's all we have for today from Sportskeeda's commentary box. Tazman Brits (Player of the Match): I have been actually dreaming about this and my dream came true tonight. Nice to come and make some runs against them (West Indies).

Sune Luus (South Africa captain): Yeah it was a great effort. We started off exceptionally well in the powerplay which set the game up for us and the 10 wicket is just the cherry on the top. I think it was a bit nervy start but after the 2nd over she started finding the game interesting. It was good to get some confidence. I think its a good build-up to the World Cup, the confidence will grow with each match play.

Hayley Matthews (West Indies captain): Lot of areas where we can improve on. Good to spend some time in the middle, watching Shanika and then Gajnabi from the other end was good.

The target of 98 was never gonna bother South Africa and it was a thoroughly convincing run chase in the end. A 10-wicket thrashing with deliveries remaining as the openers Laura Wolvaardt and Tazman Brits were just too good for the West Indies bowlers. Their respective knocks were decorated with some delightful shots and the Windies bowlers just had no answers.

Wolvaardt started the charge with some boundaries and Brits followed him with a few improvisations and reverse sweeps which yielded boundaries. Brits took over and kept smashing the boundaries at will. Eventually, they chased it down in the 14th over and registered their 2nd win of the competition. Brits reached her half-century on the final delivery of the match while Wolvaardt remained unbeaten on 42.

Earlier in the day, it was an exceptional bowling effort from the South African women’s team and restricted West Indies to a below-par score of 97. Shabika Gajnabi and Hayley Mathews helped West Indies recover from a horrendous start and while they couldn’t post a competitive score, the partnership meant that the bowlers had something to bowl at.

It was a tidy start from Marizanne Kapp and Nonkululeko Mlaba who stemmed the run flow in the powerplay and just 6 runs came from the first 6 overs. Wickets kept falling regularly as Windies just never managed to get going in the first 10 overs. However, after the drinks break, there was a change in approach and the runs started to come.

Gajnabi was joined by her captain Hayley Matthews who gave some momentum to the innings. A beautiful partnership followed after a below-par start and the duo allowed West Indies to get close to the 100-run mark.

They shared a 61 runs partnership which paved took them to 97/6 in their allotted 20 overs. Mathews scored 34 off 27 deliveries while Gajnabi scored 33 off 34. Tumi Sekhukhune was the pick of the bowlers for South Africa with a couple of scalps.
