Just a stroll in the park really for the Brisbane Heat. And a large part of this victory has to be credited to the manner in which their bowlers kept the Sixers batters and Alyssa Healy in particular on a leash during the first essay. That, along with a polished chase, has rendered the late hitting of Ashleigh Gardner and Nicole Bolton absolutely futile.
Openers Grace Harris and Georgia Redmayne set about the chase in a positive manner with shots right from the first delivery. A few tight overs thereafter went in vain for the Sixers as the Powerplay ended with an 18-run over with Maitlan Brown failing to get her radar right. Redmayne was the aggressor in the opening stand that took the Heat past 50 by the end of the 6th over.
A superb throw from Ashleigh Gardner saw Redmayne fall short of her crease soon after and it seemed as though Gardner could do no wrong. However, just like the rest of her colleagues, she too was unable to make an impact with the ball as Harris marched on with some graceful strokes to notch up her first half-century of the season. With the Heat well ahead of the 8-ball at the halfway mark, the Sixers were staring down the abyss.
Radha Yadav did give them some brief hope with the wicket of Harris and she nearly accounted for Georgia Voll off the very next delivery but a dropped catch in the deep summed up the outing on the park for the Sixers who clearly had no answer to Voll and Laura Kimmence's aggression thereafter. Without breaking a sweat thereon, the duo got the job done for the Heat with 9 deliveries to spare, lifting them to second position in the points table.
Sydney Sixers remain in fourth position with an extra game in hand as well and there is no reason to panic for Ellyse Perry and Co. However, with a rare off day for Alyssa Healy at the top of the order and Indian prodigy Shafali Verma not facing a delivery, they might have to rethink their strategy in the Powerplay. With enough resources in hand, perhaps they could look towards a more aggressive start against the new ball to dictate terms and set the tone for a par-plus total. On this belter of a surface, 159 was just never going to be enough today!
There you go! As easy as that for the Brisbane Heat. Georgia Voll has played an innings right out of the top-drawer here and it is poetic that she finishes things with a delightful boundary. Brisbane Heat beat Sydney Sixers by 8 wickets with 9 deliveries to spare!
19.0
18.3 Nicole Bolton to Georgia Voll, FOUR! VOLL FINISHES IT OFF IN STYLE! The Brisbane Heat come out on top in this encounter to solidify their hold for a playoff spot. Game, set, and match for the Heat. Full delivery on middle and leg, Voll skips down the track to whip this in the gap at cow corner to wrap up the proceedings. Brisbane Heat won by 8 wickets (with 9 balls remaining).
18.2 Nicole Bolton to Laura Kimmince, darted into the stumps on middle and leg, Kimmence makes some room to ease this down to long-on for a single
18.1 Nicole Bolton to Georgia Voll, rank full toss on the stumps, should have been put away but Voll only finds deep square leg with her pull
Nicole Bolton [3-0-21-0] is back into the attack. She will bowl around the wicket.
Just one strike away from victory now are the Brisbane Heat. Run chases don't get more clinical or as professional as this one. They've made it an absolute no-contest today!
