That will be all from us here at Sportskeeda as Nepal beat the UAE for a famous victory in the opening encounter of the Women's Asia Cup from Dambulla, Sri Lanka. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. Do stay tuned to Sportskeeda and catch all the build-up to the big game later in the evening - India vs Pakistan - here! Until next time, goodbye.
Indu Barma (Nepal captain): This feels great for us as we worked hard behind the scenes. I would like to thank the Cricket Association of Nepal for giving us the opportunity. Samjhana Khadka is a young player and we wanted to give her an opportunity to showcase her talent. I am very happy with my team's efforts, they kept believing and pushing for this result.
Esha Rohit (UAE captain): We have to start with our batting - we did not have a par score. This was a pretty decent wicket to bat on, but we just did not carry on. This puts a lot of pressure on the middle order as we did not convert their starts. We bowled well, but not in partnerships. This dragged the game away from us, I feel. Nepal played a good game today, and deserved to win.
Samjhana Khadka (Player of the Match): I opened the innings for the first time today, but I am extremely happy with the way it was going. I am proud of this knock.
Nepal scripted history today by beating the United Arab Emirates in the opening encounter of the ongoing ICC Women's Asia Cup 2024. Samjhana Khadka was the star with the bat in hand for the Nepalese as they chased down the 116 runs needed for them to beat their opponents.
UAE will be extremely disappointed with this result, and hope that they are able to come back strongly from this defeat in their next game of the tournament.
Skipper Esha Rohit, upon whom so much of UAE's hopes rested, failed to perform with the bat in hand and did not have much of a say with the ball either.
This will disappoint her a lot and she will want to come back strongly in the next game; for the moment, it is Nepal who are celebrating this famous victory.
Their skipper Indu Barma set the win up for them with the ball in hand, and Khadka batted with ease and grace to seal the deal for them with the bat.
The joy of the Nepalese players and support staff was evident in the way they rushed onto the field of play after the winning runs were hit by Khadka.
That will be that! The Nepalese fielders are overjoyed with this result. They are rushing onto the field of play! What a moment in world cricket.
16.1 Esha Rohit to Samjhana Khadka, FOUR! NEPAL HAS DONE IT! Look at the celebration in the middle. This is an unforgettable moment for every player in this squad. The players run towards Khadka to congratulate her. We could see the tears and emotions. Another short delivery and it's been pulled behind square for a boundary
Nepal are on the verge of a famous victory here! Samjhana Khadka is slated to be their heroine tonight. They need just 2 runs to win this game off 24 balls!
