So, this brings us to the end of the pulsating contest between Zimbabwe and Netherlands in this, the 2nd ODI of the 3-match series with the series locked at 1-all! Join us again on Saturday for the final match to know who comes out on top and clinches what has been an absorbing series. Till then, this is the pair of Pratyush and Bidipto saying good bye. Keep following Sportskeeda!
Wesley Madhevere has been adjudged the Player of the Match! Here is what he has to say.
Wesley Madhevere: The credit for my performance today goes to the team management. I'm happy that I could contribute with the bat in the middle-order. I don't mind batting batting anywhere to be honest, as long as, it comes good for the team. My mentality is such that no matter what the batting number, I have to put in the runs that the team requires. The ball did hold in the surface and get slower but I managed to stick to the right length and keep the pressure applied, which worked in my favour I guess with the ball!
Craig Ervine (Zimbabwe captain): The nerves have definitely not settled yet! It's getting way too normal for us, these close games! I thought we should have got to 300 after the kind of start we got. But of course, the fielding is a cause of concern for us. This problem has to be solved quickly if we have to win more matches going forward. Things are now set up nicely for the final match on Saturday.
Scott Edwards (Netherlands captain): Our bowlers did a fantastic job to get us back in the game. The batters were good all the way through but one over changed the game. (Pitch) It was similar to the other day, probably a bit lower. Felt like a bit worn. 270-280 was about par though. (Batting at the backend) Most of our guys have a plan. We've played T20 cricket, so it was all about finding the gaps and boundaries. Six extra runs and you win the game, so it isn't ideal.
Zimbabwe win by 1 run and level the series 1-1!

What an innings and what a series it is turning out to be! The Netherlands came ever so close to winning the match and the series by not giving up at any stage, but Zimbabwe, even after all the mistakes they made in the field, manage to cling on to this game by the barest of margins!
The run chase began with a flurry of boundaries from both Vikramjit Singh and Max O'Dowd. After Vikramjit's dismissal, the 125-run partnership between O'Dowd and Tom Cooper kept the Dutch ship sailing along rather smoothly! There was a drop catch by wicketkeeper Clive Madande off Cooper that was as easy as they get.
An inspired piece of fielding from the Zimbabwe skipper Craig Ervine ran Cooper out but Colin Ackermann joined forces with O'Dowd to hit some timely boundaries and threaten to take the match away from the hosts.
Zimbabwe in the meanwhile had dropped Ackermann too. There were quite a few misfields both inside and outside the ring to make matters worse.
Then came a 9-over spell of off-spin bowling from the effervescent Wesley Madhevere that gave away only 36 runs and accounted for 3 important wickets! Incidentally, all three of those wickets fell off 3 consecutive deliveries! By becoming the 3rd Zimbabwean to take a hat-trick in ODIs, Madhevere turned the match on its head and brought his team back in the contest!
But, the misfielding and the indiscipline with the ball continued for the Chevrons. Sikandar Raza castled Shariz Ahmad off a no-ball. There were more fumbles in the deep and some nervous efforts to stop the ball. Tempers flared and the visitors kept chipping away with runs.
However, as fate would have it, Sikandar Raza bowled two full tosses and picked up the dangerous Scott Edwards and Musa Ahmed respectively, to put his team in a commanding position! 19 runs were required to win off the last over.
Fred Klaassen and Ryan Klein were in no mood to give in one bit! After scoring 9 runs off the first 4 balls in the Tendai Chatara over, the Dutch were able to power one way over long-on to bring the equation down to 4 runs required off 1 ball!
Klaassen faced the final delivery and nailed it to the right of extra cover. Brad Evans ran around confidently to his left from long-off, stopped the boundary and threw it back to the bowler's end with a good throw. After completing two runs, there was a run out as the Dutch tried to tie the score with another run! With that, the match ended in favour of the hosts after a series of ebbs and flows! The crowd at the Harare Sports Club were set into the frenzy!
After a breathtaking contest, Zimbabwe manage to hold on and win by just one run!

49.6 Sikandar Raza to Fred Klaassen, ZIMBABWE CLINCH A THRILLER BY A SOLITARY RUN! Klaassen couldn't have asked for much more, it was a full toss outside the off-stump. He gets a decent chunk of it to smash this towards wide long-off but the fielder there cuts it off with ease and gets an accurate throw at the bowler's end. Chatara collects the ball and dislodges the bails as the batters tried to steal a third run, simply because they had to. Zimbabwe win by 1 run and level the series 1-1!
Ryan Klein run out (Brad Evans/Tendai Chatara) 8 (4b, 1x4, 0x6)
Netherlands now need 4 runs to win off 1 ball!
49.5 Tendai Chatara to Fred Klaassen, SIX! NO WAY! NO WAY! The yorker goes wrong and it's dished out in the slot. Klaassen clears his front leg and clubs it down the ground to clear the ropes!
