17:03 (IST)9 FEB 2023

Ravindra Jadeja: (When asked on the new hairstyle)Was at NCA, there was nothing to do after two hours of training, so, I got sometime to do something with my hair. Very happy with the way I bowled, playing after five months, it's tough but was prepared for it, working harder on my fitness and skills at NCA. (On his return to test cricket) I played first class cricket after a long time, gave my a lot of confidence to come here and do well here. (Bowling to both left-hander and right-handed batters) I was bowling to into the stumps, there was no bounce on the wicket, was targeting the stumps, the odd ball was going turning and odd ball going straight. (Dismissals of Smith and Labuschagne) Obviously, being a left-arm spinner, if you get batters out by caught behind or stumped, it's always a delight. (On finding his rhythm) Was working harder on my bowling when I was in Bangalore, I was bowling ten to twelve overs every day, I was working on my rhythm, I knew I had to be bowling long spells and rhythm holds the key. First thing is to gain confidence, playing after a long time, don't have to think too much about the injury, just go out there to enjoy, grabbed it with both the hands.

Match Day Summary

A great day for India as they started with a couple of early wickets of Usman Khawaja and David Warner.

Australia had a couple of decent partnerships. The one between Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith was cruising before the former was lured for a flighted ball off Jadeja and consequently got stumped.

Ravindra Jadeja wreaked havoc in the second session as Australia lost six wickets and managed 98 runs. After returning to the red-ball format after seven months, Jadeja bagged his career's 11th five-wicket haul.

Ashwin, too, chipped in with three wickets to go past 450 Test wickets. He joined Anil Kumble to achieve thr feat from India and overall ninth player in the world. Australia were bowled put for 177 as no batter could cross the 50-run mark with Labuschagne (49) being the highest.

Indian opener Rohit Sharma blasted against the Australia, particularly against his counterpart, Pat Cummins, to give the hosts a flying start.

Rohit remained unbeaten on 56 and his opening partner KL Rahul was dismmissed at the stroke of Day 1 by Todd Murphy, who claimed his maiden international wicket. India are trailing by 100 runs with nine wickets in hand.

Australia have an upheaval task to get quick wickets or say to comeback in the game after falling behind on most of the day.

What's left in the final session?

Players are back for the final session of the day. India are just two wickets away from blowing away Australia for a mediocre score. A lot depends on Peter Handscomb's art of playing spin bowling and the support he receives from Nathan Lyon from the other end.

AUS 93/4 (40 overs)

12:45 (IST)9 FEB 2023

The two wickets for Jadeja could be enough for a sudden collapse of the Australian batting order. However, Steve Smith will be the man to be dismissed and not to forget that Peter Handscomb is a great player of the spin.

12:35 (IST)9 FEB 2023

IND vs AUS: Ravindra Jadeja gets two in two

Ravindra Jadeja hit the fuller length round from the wicket. Renshaw was beaten by the turn while attempting to flick one and the ball struck his pads. Just for your Information

Steve Smith was dropped on 6 by Virat Kohli at first slip off Axar Patel's bowling in the 16th over. Although the Aussie vice-captain hasn't looked threating at the moment but his longevity at thr crease can be worrisome for the hosts.

IND vs AUS: Lunch Break Summary

Australia's stylish pair Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne forged an undefeated stand of 74 runs to bring the visitors back into the innings after Indian pacers dismissed both their openers early in the day.

Labuschagne was fluent with his strokeplay to give a testatment of his game sense against spin. The Australian pair delivered upon their expectations as they practiced against India's domestic spinners in the nets. A great session for both the sides but India will have to find a solution to break this partnership to avoid an indomitable score.

Australia bat smartly against India

The two Australian batters not only stopped the seamers from making huge inroads but also keeping the spinners at bay. Smith is biding his time to score runs but Labuschagne is leaving no room to punish the balls in his reach. If they survive this session then Australia can hope for a big target.
