Rohit Sharma: It was a great series for us. Lots of positives. We bowled well, got wickets when we needed and the batters throughout the series piling on the runs was good to watch. Good to see how he (Siraj) was bowling and he deserved all those slips. He is a rare talent, the way he has come up over the last few years is good to see. He has come from strength to strength and that's really good for Indian cricket. We tried all sort of things (to get his fifer) but it didn't happen unfortunately. But the four wickets are all his and fifers will come. He has a few tricks up his sleeves which he is working on and it's there to see. We'll get to the drawing board quickly (for the next series) and see how the pitch is, then decide how the combinations will be. They (NZ) are coming off a series win in Pakistan, so it won't be an easy task at all.

20:23 (IST)15 JAN 2023

Virat Kohli (POTM & POTS):  I have no idea (about the MoS awards he has won). For me, it's just a byproduct of the intent I have, mindset that I play with. Mindset is always to help the team win, bat for as long as possible and if you do that, you end up making a difference. I have always played for the right reasons, help the team as much as possible. It is just intent, playing for the right reasons. Ever since I came back from the long break, I have been feeling good. I don't have that desperation to get to a milestone. I am just enjoying my batting, being in a space where I can relax. Today as well, I was just happy to be out there batting. I am in a nice space right now and want this to continue. Shami has always been there for us but the way Siraj has come up has been outstanding. He has taken the maximum number of wickets in the powerplay, which was an issue for us early. He is always making the batters think, which is a great sign for us going into the World Cup.

20:21 (IST)15 JAN 2023

Mohammed Siraj: It would have been my first five-wicket haul. It tried hard, but it was just not meant to be. We are destined to get whatever is written in the fortunes. My rhythm has been good for some time. The outswinger is coming out well. But the scrambled seam is the real wicket-taking ball. The batters have the outswinger in mind and I slip in the scrambled seam delivery. Out captain put in efforts (by bowling Shreyas Iyer at the other end), but it didn't happen. It is good to take four wickets on this track."

20:20 (IST)15 JAN 2023

Dasun Shanaka: It's disappointing. It's not the game we wanted. It happens at times, but we have to learn to manage the start. (On what went wrong) Probably the bowling and the batting both. The bowlers need to learn to pick wickets on these tracks and the batters need to learn to score runs. Playing positive cricket is most important. (The) Intent was not there from the start. If there was intent, the bowling would have been different. I would like to congratulate the Indian team for their performance.

Match Summary

Indian batting mainstay Virat Kohli was unbeaten on 166, while Shubman Gill (116) recorded his second century of the day as India posted 390/5.

India were quick to fold up the Sri Lankan innings as Siraj and Shami sent five of their batters back in the dugout in powerplay. Nuwanindu Fernando played some delightful shots but didn't last for a long against Siraj.

Kuldeep Yadav later dismissed Dasun Shanaka to pave the way for India to quickly wrap the innings. The last pair of Kasun Rajitha and Lahiru Kumara toyed with the Indian bowlers for a few boundaried before Kuldeep cleaned up Kumara.

India whitewash Sri Lanka with a thrashing 317-run victory.

20:00 (IST)15 JAN 2023

Kuldeep gets Kumara after a few hits

Kumara hit Kuldeep Yadav over his head for a boundary. The second one against him.

Kuldeep had the last laugh as he cleaned up the Sri Lankan pacer with a flighted delivery. That was eventually the last wicket for Sri Lanka as Ashen Bandara was unavailable to bat after colliding with Jeffrey Vandersay during the field. That's a wrap for India.

Lahiru Kumara  9 (19 balls; two fours)

19:50 (IST)15 JAN 2023

Rajitha survives LBW decision

Four!!! Rajitha hits the ball over the slip region after finiding the edge.

The batter was given out for LBW in the final delivery of the same over. A DRS helped him to turn the decision in his favour as there was a spike involved in the bat.

19:38 (IST)15 JAN 2023

19:20 (IST)15 JAN 2023

19:16 (IST)15 JAN 2023

A shocking run out

Chamika Karunaratne has been stunned here by Siraj. Karunaratne put up a solid defence against Siraj. The bowler picks the ball and directs it straight to the stumps. After continuous checking from the TV umpire, Karunaratne was given out as he was outside the crease after playing the shot. A runout in unfashionable manner for the batter and great presence of mind for the bowler.

Chamika Karunaratne 1 (6 balls) run out Mohammed Siraj

18:52 (IST)15 JAN 2023

Siraj has his fourth

No power-hitting class from Hasaranga this time as Siraj shields his spin teammates. After bowling three outswingers, Siraj bowled the off-cutter to breach the defences of Hasaranga. He was late in bringing his bat down. Half of the Sri Lanka bating is back into the dugout.

Wanindu Hasaranga 1 (7 balls) b Mohammed Siraj

18:48 (IST)15 JAN 2023

Siraj ends young Nuwanidu's stay

Siraj has his man. If anyone looked more stronger against the Indian pacer then it was Nuwanidu Fernando. After getting smashed for three fours, Siraj found the edge of the batter that crashed on to the stumps. A brilliant cameo from Nuwanidu comes to a halt.

Nuwanidu Fernando 19 (27 balls; 4 boundaries)

18:42 (IST)15 JAN 2023

A soft dismissal for Sri Lanka. Shami kept it wide and short as Asalanka puched it at backward point for Axar Patel to pouch a simple catch. Sri Lanka are three down now.

Charith Asalanka 1 (4 balls) c Axar Patel b Mohammed Shami

18:39 (IST)15 JAN 2023

Nuwanidu unmoved by Siraj's variations

Nuwanidu Fernando has a great temparament. The 23-year-old is hitting boundaries against a bowler who is imposing fear in the minds of the opponents. A classic cover drive was a treat to watch for the spectators as well Siraj. Back to back fours for the youngster.

SL  31/2 (6 overs) Nuwanidu Fernando 19; Mohammed Siraj 2/15

What a shot.

Kohli charged down the track to pick the slower one from Rajitha. Slammed it way behind to the long-on stands. A glimpse of MSD playing the helicopter shot with the way Kohli panned it out.

16:57 (IST)15 JAN 2023

Hundred for Virat Kohli

Century No.46 in ODIs for India's run-machine. He completed the single just after Sri Lankan players were hit with injuries. Kohli brought the usual celebrations that amazed the crowd. third century in his last four innings and 74th in international cricket.

SL Review

Wanindu Hasaranga has asked captain Dasun Shanaka to review the LBW appeal against Sri Lanka. Shubman Gill had a smile on his face the moment Sri Lanka went for the review. The reason for that smile was a bit of glove was involved before the ball struck the bats. Gill stays forward and Sri Lanka lose their review.

15:09 (IST)15 JAN 2023

14:26 (IST)15 JAN 2023

Sri Lanka's spin plan was for very short as they hand the ball to medium pacer Chamika Katunaratne. Indian openers would be just patient here rather than playing a unsolicited shot.
