Hayden Hurst: A Brief Biography
Coming off of a pro-bowl season, Hurst plays the tight end spot and is some of the best to do it, add that spot, today. He is not a superstar by any means, but he is a solid player who has always contributed to the teams he’s played for.
Before coming into the NFL, he played for South Carolina in his college days. There, he was named the SEC Tight End of the Year in 2017 and also was honored twice into the Consensus All-American team. What is surprising is the fact that Hayden also played baseball before settling down to play football professionally.
He was a multi-talented athlete who could play many sports, but baseball in particular was another sport he could have gone pro with. As a high schooler, he was the winning pitcher in a game played for the state championship.
In fact, Hayden was such a star in baseball that he was named an Under Armour All-American. One thing led to another and there was Hayden with an offer to play for Florida State, with everything paid of course.
Hurst was not even into football once and was actually a full-time baseball player before switching sports when he was 22 years old. Hurst is so talented that he decided to walk into South Carolina and dominate the field without really having any prior experience.
He worked out a lot, and spent a lot of time in the weight room, trying to increase his strength and overall explosiveness. Today he plays for the Carolina Panthers but was originally drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the first round of the 2018 draft.

Hayden Hurst’s Early Life
Hurst grew up in the North Side neighborhood of Jacksonville, Florida. He attended The Bolles School and played three different sports there. As previously mentioned, Hurst was an excellent pitcher in baseball, could play football (obvious), and could also hoop.
Before switching to football, which was much later, he was one of the prospects in baseball. What is surprising is that Hurst was already in the MLB (Minor League Baseball) playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was chosen in the 17th round of the 2012 draft. There were also offers for him like the one that Florida State University had presented. The offer from Florida State was a full ride or in simpler words a scholarship. Instead, he turned the offer down and signed a $400,000 signing bonus with the Pirates.
He spent exactly two seasons with the Pirates and was eventually released since his production was not up to the mark.
After being released in 2014, he decided to give football another go and he walked on to the football team of South Carolina in the fall of 2015.
Hurst, despite starting his football career late, became one of the most important pieces for the Gamecocks. Winning first-team All-SEC selection in two consecutive years, 2016 and 2017, his talent was undeniable.
