Born in New Jersey, United States, Anisimova shifted to Miami when she was three. She started showing interest in tennis after watching her sister play the sport. She began playing tennis when she turned five. At 11, she started working with Nick Saviano to hone her tennis skills. Max Fomine, the assistant coach of Bryan Brothers, acts as her travelling coach.
Anisimova quickly ascended to the No. 2 ITF junior ranking, winning the Abierto Juvenil Mexicano.
