Brutus Beefcake: A Brief Biography
Edward Harrison Leslie is an American retired professional wrestler best known for his work with WWE as Brutus Beefcake.
Professional Wrestling Career
Early Years (1977-1984)
In 1997, Leslie began his career as a tag team with his brother. They worked on the independent circuit for a few years before signing with WWF.
WWF (1984-1993)
In 1984, Leslie joined WWF as Brutus Beefcake. He spent the initial months feuding with David Sammartino and Hulk Hogan, but ended up losing. In 1985, he began teaming up with Greg Valentine and formed The Dream Team. In August, the team won the WWF Tag Team Championship. At WrestleMania II, they lost the titles to The British Bulldogs.
After Mania, Beefcake became The Barber and turned face. Beefcake began feuding with The Honky Tonk Man for the Intercontinental Championship and lost. In 1989, Beefcake teamed up with Hulk Hogan to face Randy Savage and Zeus at SummerSlam and won.
At WrestleMania VI, Beefcake defeated Mr.Perfect. In 1990, Beefcake was in a serious parasailing incident that cost him two years of his career. In 1991, Beefcake returned and began hosting The Barber Shop segment. After WrestleMania IX, Leslie left the company.
WCW (1994-1999)
In 1994, Leslie signed with WCW with the help of Hulk Hogan. At Halloween Havoc, Leslie turned heel on Hogan and was called The Butcher. He formed The Three Faces of Fear and feuded with Hogan and lost.
During his time with WCW, Leslie joined several stables and changed characters on several occasions, such as The Butcher, The Zodiac, and The Disciple. In 1998, he returned to the company as The Disciple and joined the NWO. He accompanied Hogan during his matches. In his final days, he worked as a jobber for the company before being released.
Final Years (2000-2015)
After being released, he spent several years on the independent circuit by making sporadic appearances and had several matches throughout the year. In 2019, he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame by Hulk Hogan.
