Curt Hennig: A Brief Biography
Curtis Michael Hennig was an American professional wrestler best known for his work with WWE, WCW, NWA, and TNA. He was famously known as Mr. Perfect and he was a second-generation wrestler.
Professional Wrestling Career
Early Years (1980-1988)
In 1980, Hennig began his professional wrestling career in AWA. For almost a decade, Hennig spent his time in AWA and PWA. Initially, he worked for WWF as an enhancement talent before returning to the company in 1988. During his second run in AWA, Henning became the AWA World Tag Team and World Heavyweight Champion.
WWF (1988-1996)
Undefeated and Intercontinental Champion (1988-1991)
After returning to WWF, Hennig played a villainous character which became Mr. Perfect. Perfect remained undefeated for over a year and began his feud with Hulk Hogan. The streak was ended by Ultimate Warrior and Perfect loss to Beefcake and Hogan in the coming months. In 1990, Perfect defeated Tito Santana in the finals to win the Intercontinental Championship.
Perfect feuded with Texas Tornado for the rest of the year and lost the title to Tornado at SummerSlam. In December, he faced Tornado and won the title for the second time. At WrestleMania VII, he retained the title against Big Boss Man. Later, he began feuding with Bret Hart. At SummerSlam, Hart defeated Perfect to win the title. In the end, Perfect suffered a broken tailbone and bulged discs which forced him to retire.
Various Feuds and On-Screen Personality (1991-1996)
In 1992, Perfect returned from his injury and became a manager. At Survivor Series, he teamed up with Randy Savage to defeat Razor Ramon and Rick Flair. In 1993, he defeated Ric Flair and forced him to leave WWF. At WrestleMania IX, Perfect defeated Lex Luger. Perfect spent the remaining year facing Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart.
After spending a year away, Perfect returned at WrestleMania X as a special guest referee. In 1995, Perfect returned at Survivor Series as a guest commentator. Perfect became a full-time commentator and a manager in his last days with the company. Perfect's last feud was with Hunter, and he assisted Marc Mero to win the Intercontinental Championship from Farooq.
WCW (1997-2000)
In 1997, he made his WCW debut and began feuding with Diamond Dallas Page. Hennig became a fan favorite after defeating Page and joined The Four Horsemen. At Fall Brawl, he turned on The Four Horsemen and joined NWO. Later, he won the WCW United States Championship, which he dropped to Page at Starrcade. In 1998, Hennig spent some time away due to his multiple surgeries and was involved in various championship matches.
In the end, both NWO factions merged and Hennig joined NWO B-Team. In 1999, they removed Hennig from the stable. Later, he formed a tag team with Barry Windham and won the WCW World Tag Team Championships. In May, he created The West Texas Rednecks. After Rednecks, he joined forces with Creative Control, which lasted for a few months. In 2000, Hennings left the company after his contract expired.
WWF (2002)
At Royal Rumble, Hennig entered the match at No. 25 and lost. After Royal Rumble, Hennig signed with the company and had short feuds with Steve Austin and RVD. In May, they fired him from the company due to various issues such as an altercation with Brock Lesnar, Alcoholism, and the infamous Plane Ride to Hell.
TNA (2003)
In 2003, he signed with TNA where he had three televised matches before passing away.
