Mardy Fish: A Brief Biography

Mardy Simpson Fish is an American professional tennis player who is a hardcourt specialist. He rose to prominence in the early 2000s. In April 2011, Fish overtook compatriot Andy Roddick to become the American No. 1 in the ATP rankings, reaching a career-high singles ranking of World No. 7 in August 2011. Fish has won six tournaments on the main ATP Tour and has reached the final of four Masters Series events: Cincinnati in 2003 and 2010, Indian Wells in 2008, and Montreal in 2011. Some of his best results include reaching the quarter-finals of the 2007 Australian Open, the 2008 US Open, and the 2011 Wimbledon Championships. At the 2004 Olympics, Fish reached the final in the men\'s singles, losing to Nicolas Massu. After turning professional in 2000, he spent a few years playing in the Challenger and Futures circuits. He earned his first title on the ATP Tour in 2002 playing doubles in the U.S. Men\'s Clay Court Championships in Houston, Texas with Andy Roddick. At the 2004 Summer Olympics, Fish obtained a silver medal for the United States. iN 2006, Fish was granted a wild card entry into the US Men\'s Claycourt Championships and he did not dissapoint as he won the tournament. In 2008, he paired up with Serena Williams to win the Hopman Cup. Fish began 2010 by winning the SAP Open in San Jose with doubles partner Sam Querrey. His biggest win in singles came when he defeated the then World No. 1 Roger Federer at the Pacific Life Open in 2008.
