Matt Kuchar’s Early Life and Background
American professional golfer Matt Kuchar was born on June 21, 1978, in Winter Park, Florida to Peter Kuchar and Meg Kuchar. Matt has a younger sister, Rebecca Krutz. At the age of 12, Matt entered the world of golf under the guidance of his father, Peter Kuchar, who was a life insurance salesman. Matt attended Seminole High School and graduated in 1996. Matt took admission to Georgia Tech in Atlanta and developed his techniques and skills by playing collegiate golf events. Besides golf, he is into tennis, likes playing backgammon, spends time outdoors, exploring new places with his family and reading books, especially in front of a wood-burning stove.

While attending Georgia Tech, Matt became the first-time All-American twice on the Yellow Jackets golf team. He won the U.S. Amateur in 1997 and also the Terra Cotta Invitational by his impressive golfing skills. In 1998, being the nation's top collegiate golfer, Matt Kuchar earned the Hawkins Award. During his amateur days, he also became the low amateur at The Masters Tournament and U.S. Open in 1998.

Early on, he continued playing golf events at Seminole High School and Georgia Tech. During his amateur career, Matt won at the Terra Cotta Invitational in 1997 and also the U.S. Amateur the same following year.
After being a professional golfer in 2000, he played several tournaments and achieved success in most of them. In 2002 he secured his first victory on the PGA Tour at the Honda Classic (2002). Then in 2006, he started playing on the Nationwide Tour and won at Henrico County Open which caused him to finish 10th place on the Nationwide Tour money list.
His second victory on the PGA Tour came after seven years in 2009 at the Turning Stone Resort Championship. In 2010, Matt finished top 10 in several PGA Tour events and earned numerous awards, including the Arnold Palmer Award, Vardon Trophy and Byron Nelson Award. In 2011, he did not win any tournament but finished second at the Memorial Tournament behind Steve Stricker and also at The Barclays.
In 2012, Matt tied for third place in the Masters Tournament. In the same year he secured his victory at The Players Championship on May 13, 2012. After that, he won several tournaments like the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship (2013), Memorial Tournament (2013), RBC Heritage (2014), Fiji International (2015), Mayakoba Golf Classic (2018), Sony Open in Hawaii (2019) and SMBC Singapore Open (2020).
In 2017, Matt Kuchar finished second with his best in The Open Championship, which was one of his greatest achievements on the course. Apart from this, he reached his highest level with 4th rank in the Official World Golf Ranking as of June 2, 2013.
